    I use Macromedia Fireworks to make .jpgs and .gifs. You can add whatever text you want, and can add a number of effects to it.

    Or if you have Macromedia Flash you can export the image currently shown on screen as a .jpg or .gif

    Just go to File - Export Image.

    If you go to macromedia.com you should be able to download a free 30-day trial for both Fireworks and Flash.

    If it's just a text .gif you want, I have this package called Xara 3D4. Not sure what their website is called. But if you type Xara 3D4 in a search engine, I'm sure it will come up.

    Again, you can get a free 30-day trail for that, but I think it only cost $20 or something.

    You can also use ImageReady. If you basic knowledge of PS you will quickly find the way to do it. I cannot explain it here because I am back in France for the summer and am not fully functional with their funky keyboards. 8-}

    There's also Ulead Gif Animator 5. I haven't really used that one myself.

    Again, you can get a free 30-day trial from the Ulead site.

    You can also use Photoshop if you're talking about animated gifs.

    Make each frame of your animation a different layer. When you save it, save it as a gif and save the layers as frames. That's it.

    You serious? Next, you'll be asking us how to type questions into the forums using your 'keyboard' and 'modem' to connect to the 'internet'

    He means an animated one- a good question. I doubt he was wondering how to make a straight .gif as you could in MSPaint. Cool it.

    I just do all my stuff through After EFfects but I am sure there are much easier and less robust porgrams you could use.

    Nice and simple.

    Or, I believe you can use CorelRAVE, which is corel's version of flash--comes with the whole Draw11suite. Haven't started playing with it yet, but I like the way corel draws objects a lot more than I do Flash's.

    The answer is: pick a software package. Which one? Which one works for you. Check out the demos & free trials.
