How do you pronounce Ysanne Isard?

and ysalamari (sp?), and Zsinj, and all those other EU terms you just can't pronounce? I remember reading about an interview with an EU author explaining this, but I don't remember where I saw it or who was interviewed.

I always used to think "yuh-salamari," but I think it's actually "eesalamari." I don't know for sure though. I think in some interview Zhan straightened it all out. Maybe his website says, or his thread in the Authors and Artists forum.

 

i always think of it as "Yee-sann Izz-ard"
but i dunno how its properly pronounced

 

I thought it was Ice-An Ice-ard or Ice-an Iss-ard

 

i just looked it up in the New Essential Guide to Characters:
Ee-san Eye-sard (Ysanne Isard)
Zinj (Zsinj)

 

lexu's right about ysalamari being "eesalamari," if I recall correctly. He clarified it at one of his book signings but of course I forgot to take notes.

Here is a thread with a summarized version of Zahn's Hyperspace chat. It explains how to pronounce a few EU names but I don't think Isard is on there.

 

They need to do an offical thinky for Tenel Ka.

The way I say it is this

10-el caa like saying the num 10 with el on the end, then a k sound with an ah on the end ten-el Kah

I knew Isard was pronounced as Eye-sard because of her nickname "Iceheart". Say Isard fast enough and you get Iceheart out of it.

 

With my lips

 

I've always promounced it 'Yeh-san'. But that's just me.

And I don't even touch ysalamiri.

 

In ysalamari the Y is silent. And I've always said Yeh-san is-ard.

 

I can think of something to do with my lips, and Tenel Ka

 

Now Zsinj was a an easy one to figure out, but Ysanne Isard I always pronounced Yih-sane Is-ard, although I know that's wrong, that's just how I know it. Ysalamari...*sigh* I just tried to go through it really fast and came up with Yis-la-maree.
