It would really really hurt to boil in acid even for a week.

I don't think that was meant to be taken sooo literally. It sounds more like a legend, or story that has been passed around for many years. You know, "Hey, kids! Don't go near the Sarlacc Pit or else..."

the Sarlaac has silica that have enzymes that keep it's food alive, so it can travel its whole body, kept alive and fresh. You are kept alive for a long time...longer than you think you could live.

    Bib can describe it better.

    So what you're saying is, people should dive in there if they want to extend their life expectancy. 8-}

Wait 'til Joan Rivers hears about this.

what i want to know is:

HOW DID THE SARLACC SURVIVE FOR THE FIRST 1000 YEARS OF ITS LIFE, SINCE IT TOOK THAT LONG FOR ITS FIRST MEAL TO PRODUCE ENERGY?

all sarlaacs are small at some time

it will take as long to digest something as is proportianate to it's body size.

Would you rather be fed to the Rancor, where you would be digested for a thousand minutes?

The Sarlacc keeps its victims alive by supplying nutriants to them. I don't know why it does that seeing how it needs food to supply and by feeding its victims, it kinda defeats the purpose of keeping them alive in the first place.

perhaps the Sarlacc's digestive juices are actually sustaining nutrients to other life forms, but not to the Sarlacc. Evolution is quirky that way.

That observation actually makes alot of sense, Max....also kinda fits in with that symbiote theme Lucas tried to present in TPM...well, with a very deranged definition of "mutual advantage" [face_batting]

just because you are digesting for 1000 years doesn't mean you are alive for those 1000 years and how would it digest and keep you alive anyway. even with enzymes to keep you alive you would begin to lose body parts and die

Maybe Sarlacc's feed off the electrical energy produced by living things, thereby requiring them to keep their prey alive for long periods of time.

Or maybe Jabba is speaking out of his already considerable arse.

    remember...star wars galaxy...

plus...as long as your torso and brain are function...you can live

The Sarlacc is an extreme form of animal, but slow digestion is not too uncommon.

Many creatures actually have separate pouches inside their stomachs that separate creatures according to various stages of digestion that they are in.

Microbes and protazoa control the process of fermenting ingested items. Ususally the microbes must be hot, such creatures will lay out in the warm sun often.

In the Sarlacc's case, it is on a very hot world and the gut microbes themselves along with a weak stomach acid contribute to such slow digestion.

AAGH! Can you imagine almost seventeen hours of that awful bluescreening?!?!?! The Sarlaac may look like Audrey II from Little Shop of Horrors, but at least you'd be fooled by the realism... speaking of which...

OMG  The Sarlaac is The Architect!! The whole GFFA is in the Matrix!!

I think I heard that the Sarlacc slowly digest you, but you're going to be alive the whole time, it is going to digest everything execept the parts in your body that detects pain.

    Ouch.

The whole concept is a little kinky, but I'll throw in a supposition.

Perhaps the Sarlacc is a force eater. As has been established in Star Wars canon the force is in all living things. Perhaps it takes a thousand years for the Sarlacc to fully absorb it's victim's force energy.

Kind of like the Terentaeks in Knights of the Old Republic.

I always thought someone (A very brave someone) extracted Sarlacc digestive acid a long time ago and kept it in a lab with something, and it took a thousand years to fully dissolve,so that's how they know.

No, I'm sure Leia's love slaves taste alot better. Besides, they're probably used to round-the-clock punishment.

    ;)
