How is it that stormtroopers are all the same size? How does the empire recruit so many stormtroopers that must be the same size? I'm not talking about clones, just regular humans. What is the height size for a stormtrooper?

No, not necessarily. Some stormtroopers are just ordinary recruits trained from the academy at Carida.

Who says all Stormtroopers are the same size? I've never noticed this.

i always had the impression that Imperial military had a strict rule about this. I think I've read it somewhere, but I can't recall where. I think they all have to be the same height. Also, Leia says that Luke is too short for a stormtrooper further alluding to the size constraint of a stormtrooper

I'm pretty sure the Stormtroopers in the OT weren't of an uniform size, but I didn't exactly take out a tape measure and see. (Royal Guardsmen all have to be of a 1.83m height, though)

oh, now that is interesting. I thought it was stormtroopers that all had to be the same hight? What do you know is the reason for the Royal guards having to be the same height?

Well, since some of the stormtroopers are from a different genetic template, some of them would be of a height different from 1.8m. (I believe a LFL person said something of that along those lines)

The Royal Guard were probably of the same height since they would look more unified and impressive that way, or at least Palpatine thought so.

At first the debates were all about stormtroopers not having the same voice and height. When I first saw ANH in 1997(I was 9 then) i didn't notice that, I thought they were all of uniform voice and heights. I didn't know what composed of the ST ranks at that time until the AOTC confirms that the CTs will soon become the Empire's STs. Until I joined message boards and find out that many are complaining about this voice and height thing, theorizing that they were composed of recruits and conscripts. It took a long time before I was finally convinced that the STs do not have the same height. Now finding this one complaining on why the STs have different sizes... I don't know what to say.

The ST's in ANH are a mix of old clones and new recruits from planets like Cardia. I think there is probably a minimum and maximum height for STs, in ANH the STs are different heights but all seem to be within certain tollerances (ie no 6' 10'' STs), this means that it woul be easy for someone (ie Leia) to pick out a ST that was a deviation from their usual height.

The clones have accelerated growth to age twice as fast as a normal human, thus they probably will live only half as long as a normal human. By the time ANH rolls around the fully grown clones from AOTC are pushing 40 or so (thus their bodies have aged to become like an 80 years old, making them useless as soldiers). Sure the Empire might have continued to create clones, but that is time consuming and costly, and recruiting new troops takes a lot less time and money to do. Therefor, I personally believe the Stormtroopers of the Original Trilogy can only be a mix of clones AND recruits.

If you come into the Imperial Academy too short, they put you on the rack for a few days. If you're too tall, they take out a few ribs and collapse your body a few inches :p.

    (I joke, I joke)

you say its a joke (it does sound weird), but I can swear I heard that somewhere in some Star Wars source. Its just I can't remember. Unless, it is a joke and I'm mistaken, but I don't think I could have thought that on my own. Also, where I heard it, I don't think it was presented as a joke, like it was just here. Anyone know where this may have come from?

The Saga forum had a really long (and even somewhat violent) discussion about whether or not stormies are clones back in February. The final conclusion came from Lucas himself-the OT stormies are mostly clones, but not of Jango. It's a 75%/25% mix of clones & recruits.

they can't all be the same height. if they were, then how come only one of them hits his head on the door in ANH? [face_thinking] :)

maybe because he was standing straigther than the others. The others could have been slouching a little. I haven't seen when he bumps his head, but if he was running or walking fast, people bob their head, so maybe it was just because he was a little more clumsy than the others. The others noticed it and dodged, but the one that hit his head, was just stupid and clumsy.
