I have a can of beef stew. My fridge is broken. I'm hungry.

I know that leaving opened food unrefrigerated is a no-no, but it wouldn't be out for long. I was going to open the can tonight, eat half of it now, and put the rest in a plastic container and eat it tomorrow for breakfast so it doesn't get wasted. The can is too big for me to eat all of it at one sitting (it's 3 servings, but I'm really hungry and need lots of protein, so I could finish the whole can in two meals.)

    Is this a bad idea?

The whole concept of eating canned beef stew is wrong IMO.

That is not real stew it is an imposter.

Real stew is homemade from garbage.

I'm not about to go buy meat to make my own stew until the fridge is fixed on Monday. Even if I cooked it all so it didn't have to be refrigerated, it would take me a lot longer than until tomorrow morning to eat it all.

Several questions and and a couple of answers.

    1. Why do you have a can of beef stew in the frig?
    2. Why are you so hungry that you would risk botulism?
    3. Is stew the only food you have?
    4. Have you called a repair man to fix your broken frig?

    1. If you have a can of stew then it has an expiration date.
    2. If the expiration date is good then eat up.
    3. Bread w/butter goes great w/beef stew. Enjoy. :)

But if you really need lots of protein, I have a suggestion for you. Please contact Darth Tunick for further details.

Eleventh of Guards I believe you have failed at the college lifestyle test.

That soup is good to sit in that container for at least a week.

    1. It's not in the fridge; it's in the cupboard.
    2. I'm not, if the risk is high. I'm wondering if it really would be high enough to be concerned about. (I guess I could always just eat what I can and throw the rest out...)
    3. No, I have some tuna fish and vegetables. And peanut butter, but I had a peanut butter sandwich for lunch and don't want more.
    4. Yes

It's well within the timeframe for safety as indicated by the expiration date... but it's going to be opened and unrefrigerated in a 70-degree apartment for about 8-10 hours before it all gets eaten.

Eleventh of Guards you must use logic. If that stew was sealed and not in the fridge to begin with, what does it matter what form it is sealed in after you already open it. As long as it is sealed again it is fine.

    You're right. I'm being stupid.

If I die of food poisoning, though, I'm going to come back as a ghost and haunt the JCC.

If you get any job that involves food preparation of any sort, please inform me so that I never eat from that place. Thanks.

If the can says "refrigerate after opening" I would ditch whatever you don't finish. That's just...not good. Not good at all.
