How long was Leia on the Death Star/ How long was the movie?

How much time passed in real time while Leia was on the Death Star, from the time the Tantative IV got attacked to the award ceremony at the end of "A New Hope?".

This question always bugged me, and I'd also appreciate if anybody knows how long the "Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" movies actually took in real time?

Check the official timeline to find the correct answer. I believe ANH lasts around 8 days, but I could be mistaken.

 

I think the movie lasted two weeks. I'm not 100% positive though.

 

A little more than a week would be my best guess.

 

I'd say 10-12 days or so.

An interesting point of view on this idea is the book "Death Star." I know it's EU but it actually covers the events just before the capturing of the Tantive IV and Leia, right up to the end of ANH. It's actually an interesting read. But it seems that part of the book takes place over the course of about 10-15 days.

I would imagine at least 10 days makes sense: Just the Falcon's trip from Tattooine to Alderaan alone must have been at least a few days. Not counting the two days or so from the time that the droids crash land in the desert to when they all leave The Mos Eisley Spaceport.

Plus, something I just thought of: we really don't know how much time went by between the time Luke says he wants to go with Obi-Wan and become a Jedi, to when they arrive at Mos Eisley. That could have been days in between-preparing, as it were. I doubt they went STRAIGHT from the burning Jawa pile to the spaceport...

The Life and Legend of Obi-Wan Kenobi implies a length of several days at least as well. It also specifies that, between Luke agreeing to become a Jedi and them arriving at Mos Eisley, IIRC they spend the night at Anchorhead since, as old Ben reasoned, Luke had already had a big enough day as it was.

Which I can't really disagree with.

 

WHere is the official timeline that you are using, the only one's I've ever seen go in year increments.

 

You can find a link to it somewhere on TFN, but I'm not sure of the exact location. I do know that A New Hope starts on 36:3:3, though (that is, March 3rd in the 36th year after the Stark Hyperspace Conflict). I'm not sure why the SHC is the basis for that calendar, but that's the way dates are referenced on HoloNet News.

 

My best guess would be that the movie occurs over a period of a week. So I think Leia was on there for 4-5 days. Here's how I have it:

DAY 1: Attack on Tantive IV / Leia Captured / Droids Escape (captured by Jawas)

DAY 2: Stormtrooper search continues / Owen purchases droids / Leia's message revealed

DAY 3: Obi-Wan meets Luke / Owen and Beru killed / Luke vows to leave and become a Jedi

DAY 4: Obi-Wan and Luke travel to Mos Eisley / Meet Han and Chewie / Escape from Tatooine / Journey to Alderaan

DAY 4/5: Captured by Death-Star / Rescuing Leia / Obi-Wan's death / Escape from The Death Star / Journey to Yavin

DAY 6: Arrival on Yavin / Death Star follows

DAY 7: Assault on The Death Star

DAY 7/8: Medal ceremony
