    It's not a question.

The timeline, as I understand it from having played KotOR 1, is that immediately after being defeated as a Sith, Revan is captured by the strike-force that included Bastila and subsequently mind-wiped by the council.

    So we have four options:

    a) Revan injured Malak when they were both Jedi (in which case it was presumably some sort of horrific accident). Which strikes me as not too likely.

    b) Malak fell to the dark side before Revan and they battled prior to Revan's fall - which doesn't really make too much sense because then why would Malak have consented to be the apprentice rather than the master, even if Revan did have more raw power, it's not like a Sith Lord to relinquish any power. Though again, I suppose if the fight was what was converted Revan, and he kicked Malak's ***, that could explain it. Still, I think, unlikely.

    c) Revan fell first and inflicted the injury on Malak when the then-Jedi-Malak tried to challenge him, he was defeated and Revan turned him as Malak later turned Bastila. Possible. Though the way the game phrases it makes it sound like it was a joint decision to become Sith rather than one corrupting the other. Still, the game definitely leaves it open to interpretation.

    d) A fight when they were both Sith; possibly even the fight that determined Revan would be the master and Malak the apprentice?

    I think on balance, I choose c) or d), most likely d)?

The first game emphasizes very strongly that Malak adored Revan and followed him into the dark side, so I'd think the best explanation would be either in a duel to determine supremacy, or in a duel very early on after Malak got cold feel and tried to pull back -- the Dantooine flashback clearly shows he wasn't as eager as Revan, even if he was willing to follow him.

He had his jaw during the Dantooine flashback, so he lost it sometime after that.

Bar fight in a cantina on Korriban.

BTW, when do the Revan and Malak figures come out? I want them so badly, but I'm afraid some jerk ass is going to go to Target or where ever and buy them all then charge and arm and a leg for them on his ebay store. I hate these guys. It's enough to turn me to the dark side.

It seems now that "Revan" and "Malak" are not the actual names of the Jedi these men were before becoming Sith.

When did Revan strike off Malak's jaw? Well... Malak is referred to in the opening crawl as "the last surviving" apprentice of Revan.

So my guess is that he's the only one that Revan spared after they attempted to overthrow him.

This has the nice side-effect of meaning that Revan learned the "one apprentice to each master" lesson he teaches Bane firsthand, and that he is referring to himself as having been a fool. Which I like.

I, also, remain desperate for that obscure opening scroll line to be ruthlessly exploited.

Still not answer on when those figs come out? I need to know what days I should be looking to be at the store with lightsaber ignited to de-jaw any scalpers trying to get them jawns before I do...

Somehow, I've felt that this was implied the entire time, though I don't remember any clear evidence of it.

As for Malak falling to the dark side before Revan... I doubt it. In the Dantooine flashback, it is Malak who has doubts about the Star Forge. Besides, when you defeat Malak in the end, one of the available options is something like: "I'm sorry I pushed you onto this path. But you chose to continue down it."

I would have guessed that Revan punished Malak for failing something; like what Palpatine did to Vader's hand.

On one of the loading screens of KoToR...there was some blurb like "Revan was the more powerful and became the Master. Malek grudgingly accepted the role of apprentice."

I assumed "Grudgingly accepted" didn't infer a coin flip or a game of pazaak...

I thought that Revan had done it when they had fought for the #1 Sith spot - as mentioned by the game - immediately when I saw Malak's wound in that cutscene. So yeah, "grudgingly accepted" sounds like "lost battle, got maimed, became apprentice and vowed to kill Revan if there ever was a chance".

The c) version posted above is interesting, however; it works well with the image we get of Malak as a nice young man in the KOTOR comics who's just got some issues with Mandalorians and then needs some "convincing / hate development" to actually take the step to become a Sith.

Same here. I played KotOR again recently, and can't recall any specific mention of it, but is this supposed to be new information that Revan de-jawed Malak? Maybe it was just an assumption on my part that turned out to be correct, but i never thought anything other than Revan de-jawed Malak, going back to the first time playing the game before i got (back) into the EU.

As for how ... could be an interesting story. I just assumed it was either during a power-struggle duel, or more simply, that Malak did something that p*ssed Revan off, and Revan lashed out at him (in a "Apology accepted, Captain Needa" kinda way).

If Alek is to be Malak as I suspect. Then it would be cool foreshadowing if it's Mandalore that does it to him after reading the preview for #20. I could see on Malachor if Alek rushes to face him before Revan(like Anakin does Dooku in AOTC)does and loses his jaw. And since this is the place where they lose their humanity, it would be fitting for him to be dubbed Malak after Malachor because this is where he would lose his Jedi name as well as his jaw.

I'm gonna dive off-topic for a moment and answer your question. Hasbro's Wave 5 (AKA The Expanded Universe Wave) 'officially' comes out this month. Some folks already have the figures in hand. I'm one of them. In fact, I literally got my Revan and Malak figures in the mail today. Distribution of the wave will depend on where you're at. For example, they've already started to show up in Los Angeles, CA and Huntsville, AL. If you're lucky, they should be in full force (heh) by the end of the month.

EE or BigBadToyStore or another decent toy store. Out of that entire wave, Revan and Malak will be/are the hardest to find IMHO. Scalpers will be looking extra hard to get a hold of those two. Heck, I've already seen places like ToyWiz demand 30 smackers for a single Revan alone. That's just insane.
