    The SW Encyclopedia said that "at least 25,000" Star Destroyers were made. Then again, that's also a sum total of any and all classes of SDs. No idea how many Imperial-class (specifically) were made. "Lots". :)

    I thought the statement in HoT about 25,000 star destroyerswas refering specifically to Imperial-class vessels.

    Enough that at the height of the Rebellion, ISDs were being produced faster than the Navy's computer databases could be updated.

    I thought the statement in HoT about 25,000 star destroyerswas refering specifically to Imperial-class vessels.

    That statement was probably cited from the SW Encyclopedia, which was written before HoT. The Encyclopedia has that figure under the entry for "Star Destroyer", which covers 'em all. The entry in the Encyclopedia doesn't seem to differentiate between varying types, and says "25,000 Star Destroyers". It COULD mean only Imperial-class, but we don't know. The entry is kinda ambiguous. :)

    does anybody have a guess on many star destroyers they might have now, i mean if they had around 25,000 during the ot, i cant 20,000 star destroyers more or less being destroyed or captured, i mean even if some of them were victory class, still losing one or two star destroyers is bad but losing 10,000 or more?

    The 25,000 statement - is that from the official encyclopedia or the unofficial one at theforce.net?

    As for losing SDs - the number could also include under construction vessels (the Imperial Order of Battle in BFC lists all ships including newly laid keels). Other SDs could belong to warlords or planets that overthrew the Empire. And seeing how SDs are destroying with increasing regularity in the books and games . . .

    hmm seems like a large number of them were destroyed before thrawn trilogy because why would thrawn need the katana fleet with its 200 dreadnaughts, unless a large number of sd's were destroyed

    Palpatine ordered a large bulk of the Imperial fleet into the Deep Core to prepare for his resurgence 6 years after Endor. This is where most of the ships were, preparing for Operation Shadow Hand.

    Do you have the Essential Chronology? It explains it all in there. But in a nutshell -

    Palaptine defeated, Empire fractures into warlords again.

    Daala re-emerges, groups warlord forces together and attacks NR.

    Daala defeated.

    Pelleaon takes surviving forces to the Mid-Rim.

    Viscous fighting with the NR pushes Imperial forces into what is now known as the Imperial Remnant.

    I might have forgotten somethings - haven't got my copy of the EC to hand, sorry. This is from my addled, hazy memory.

    Anyone else add to this?

    Pellaeon says 25000 in SotP, then says he has 200 of them.

    the reason thrawn needed 200 dreadnauts was because that fleet was only suposed to function as an offensive strike force as the rest of the empire came to recognize him as the best hope for victory they would supply the ships needed to keep order in the regions

    The 25k figure is from Steve Sansweet's SW Encyclopedia. The book, not the website. Not the CUSWE (Whenever I mean the CUSWE, I always indicate it. Just for your information :)).

    Well, there are 72 TIE fighters of differant sorts per SD, that comes to 1,800,000 just in the regular fleet. Thats also assuming the 25,000 referance is for SD only.

    Throw in Super SD's, support ships, garrison bases, and any major Imperial planet that has a good home fleet and you could easily double or triple that figure. Its kinda hard to say, I have never read a definate estimation.

    I think they are talking of the ISDs only.

    In most sources they talk about ISDs and then mention other ships as supportfleets, that include Victory-Stardestroyers.

    As to their numbers: The Imperial Sourcebook speaks of three to five dozen ISDs per sectorfleet and on page 111 it speaks of "thousands" of sectorfleets, giving us a minimum number of 2,000 sectorfleets.

    Since sectorfleets stay in their sectors (DeathStarTechnicalManual), those ships aren´t operating galaxy-wide. So there have to be other ships conquering new worlds and hunting rebels.

    And then there are the Stardestroyers in planetary defenseforces (2 for Tangrene, 10 for Coruscant, 10-15 for Kuat and so on).

    I thing a minimum number of 300,000 ISDs would be a conservative estimation.

    In a couple of MAS's books, it states metaphorically it was the 3rd most common thing in the galaxy. After hydrogen and stupidity.

    So, yes, there would be millions of TIEs in the galaxy.

    I thing a minimum number of 300,000 ISDs would be a conservative estimation.

    Naw... that sounds a little extreme, especially when we have explicit quotes that says "...constructed 25,000 Star Destroyers".

    Just my opinion, mind you.

    Little extreme???

    Considering that DS2 equals 4.24 BILLION ISDs in volume and was completed to fivty percent in less than a year, 300,000 is a much to low estimate.

    Lets see:

    3 to 5 dozen per sectorfleet (ImperialSourcebook):
    -> 36,000 - 60,000 ISDs

    in "thousands of sectorfleets" (ImperialSourcebook page 111), two-thousand sectorfleets minimum
    -> 72,000 - 120,000 ISDs

    that stayed in their sectors (DeathStar Tech.Manual)

    Imperial Navy, which is capable of galaxy-wide operations
    -> 25,000 ISDs

    planetary defenseforces (Tangrene 2 ISDs, Coruscant 10-15, Kuat 10-15), lets be conservative and say, that ONLY five percent of the ONE MILLION capitol worlds of the empire were guarded by two ISDs:
    -> 100,000 ISDs

    giving us a total number of 245,000 ISDs.

    That would be only 45,000 ISDs or 18 percent more, than the (200 ISDs to 1,000 worlds) - Ratio for one million worlds in "Spectre of the Past".

    Eh, I'll still stick with the quote we've been given. :)
    Fans can speculate all they want, but at the end of the day, the canon stands alone.

    I have an exact number of all types of ships.

    One more than ever written about.

    Includes Death Stars, Sun Crushers, Eyes of Palpatine, and anything else as well. This way, if you need a ship, you have it. While I realize you are trying to get an estimate for whatever reason, the simple truth is that they will never run out of them.
