Title says it all: does anyone have a list of all usages of the word in the classic trilogy. I googled the question, expecting lists to be quite common, but nothing came up.
LEIA Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope. LUKE Well, come on. It's getting late. I only hope we can get back before Uncle Owen really blows up. HAN Seems okay, if we can get to it. Just hope the old man got the tractor beam out of commission. HAN I hope the old man got that tractor beam out if commission, or this is going to be a real short trip. Okay, hit it! LEIA The technical readouts of that battle station. I only hope that when the data is analyzed, a weakness can be found. It's not over yet! LEIA We don't have time for our sorrows, Commander. The battle station has surely tracked us here. (looking pointedly to Han) It's the only explanation for the ease of our escape. You must use the information in this R2 unit to plan the attack. It is our only hope.
Last bit conflates stuff from earlier scenes- old script. LEIA We don't have time for our sorrows, Commander. The battle station has surely tracked us here. (looking pointedly to Han) It's the only explanation for the ease of our escape. You must use the information in this R2 unit to plan the attack. It is our only hope Underlined bits are not present in actual scene: LEIA: We have no time for sorrows, Commander. You must use the information in this R2 unit to help plan the attack. It's our only hope.
I've got EPISODE IV: Leia: “Hope me Obi Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.” (x4) Luke: “Well, come on. It’s getting late. I only hope we can get back before Uncle Owen really blows up.” Han: “And hope they don’t have blasters.” Han: “Seems okay, if we can get to it. Just hope the old man got the tractor beams out of commission.” Han: “I hope the old man got that tractor beam out of commission, or this is going to be a real short trip. Okay, hit it!” Leia: “The technical readouts of that battle station. I only hope that when the data is analysed, a weakness can be found. It’s not over yet!” Leia: “You must use the information in this R2 unit to plan the attack. It is our only hope.” EPISODE V: C3PO: “Mistress Leia, Artoo says he’s been quite unable to pick up any signals, although he does admit that his own range is far too weak to abandon all hope.” C3PO: “Your Highness, we must take this last transport. It’s our only hope.” Han: “Come on! Come on! Switch over. Let’s hope we don’t have a burnout.” Leia: “Someday you’re going to be wrong, and I hope I’m there to see it.” Leia: “I hope you know what you’re doing.” Ben: “That boy is our last hope.” EPISODE VI: Vader: “I hope so, Commander, for your sake.” C3PO: “Victims of the almighty Sarlacc: His Excellency hopes that you will die honourably.” Ben: “Then the Emperor has already won. You were our only hope.” Han: “I hope she’s alright.” Luke: “If I don’t make it back, you’re the only hope for the Alliance.”
Certainly mentioned a lot in R1. Maybe that movie holds the record. Speaking of words, seems Lucas had a thing for the word "mindful" when he wrote the PT. It's everywhere, then isn't mentioned again in the OT or the ST so far
You haven't been mindful of the dialogue. TPM 1. But Master Yoda said I should be mindful of the future. 2. Be mindful of the living Force, young Padawan. 3. Be mindful of your feelings. Your thoughts dwell on your mother. 4. I'm not allowed to train you so I want you to watch me and be mindful. 5. Lord Maul, be mindful. Let them make the first move. AotC 1. You're focusing on the negative Anakin. Be mindful of your thoughts! 2. Be mindful of your thoughts Anakin, they betray you. So that's SEVEN times in Eps I & II & not a single time in all following episodes & movies. Seems it was GL's favorite word when he wrote the first two prequels. To me it stands out as a strange fad that was overused & then dropped.
