Well, this is my opionion (some based off of Visual Dictionaries, and some thinking)

TPM has a female hutt, and the Vis. Dic. says that hutts change sex when they are ready to reproduce. Maybe they impreagnant themselves.

Hutts are supposed to be slimly. Maybe they have a make-up like tauntauns and excreate throughout pores in thier skin. This is just specative, so if anyone has any other ideas, let's have 'em.

If they are asexual, then why are there males and females in the movies? There should only be like, one kind of hutt. And even if they are, it's funny to imagine that Jabba changes his gender at some points of his life to have children. Can you imagine what a child hutt would be like? [face_laugh]

Hutts are asexual. When they decide they need to have a kid, they can change sex and do it. The young are born alive. Gestation last several months. When the young Hutt is born it is almost mindless, has only stubs for fingers, and needs to spent most of its time in its mother's pouch. It gains intelligence, grows arms and fingers, and becomes independent etc. after about a century. I would estimate Jabba at about 150-250 years old.

    Hope that helps. :)

Oh yeah?! Then why did Jabba have a thing for scantily clad females dancing around in front of him? Huh huh?? ;) That denotes some level of testosterone in Jabba, which flies in the face of the asexual-Hutt theory (which would mean that he would dance for himself). Although I respect any reputable non-film information source, I still strongly suspect (based on Ep6) that Jabba would have very much liked to have a few Jabba juniors, a few hutt-human hybrids, whatever...with Leia. So based on his behavior, I think Jabba's an old fashioned kinda guy. *shudders*

Well darnit, I refuse to believe that the mighty Jabba the Hutt, legendary evil galactic badguy gangster, owner of the male-est deep rumbling voice, can get pregnant...by himself.

    Wait wait wait-

Maybe it's like this- Maybe when you cut a Hutt's tail off, it grows into a new Hutt. Yeah, that makes sense! Yeah, I like that explanation, that's what I'm going with. ;)

ACloneWhoIsDifferent: I was referring to the user of these boards, not the character himself.

Hutts can mate I've heard. Jabba's nephew Gorga got married to some Hutt chick.

When I first read this, I misread it thinking you wrote some Hot chick. :^) Interesting though. Perhaps in fact they are not asexual. In TPM, it looked like Gardula the Hutt was wearing lipstick. So if she is asexual, why would her name be Gardula? And Jabba does sound more like a girl name than a boy name to me, so who knows. ?[face_plain]

Well, I'm not Bib but can I pitch in anyway? :p

The only answer we really have comes from the EU. The Han Solo Triology goes into the culture of the Hutts more than anyone ever should. It explains that Hutts are asexual, and when they know it's 'time' to give birth, they change gender (oh yeah, like the frogs in Jurassic Park! ;) ) In the books, one of the Hutts does this, going from a male to a female. Yeah, it's really more than we needed to know [face_plain]

It's like in that movie "Evolution" with David Duchovny, they don't have sex, they split in two.

Hutt: A large, slug-like alien with short, stubby arms, huge eyes, and a wide mouth. They originated on the planet Varl, but have populated a great number of other worlds including Nal Hutta.

They speak their own language, and have the ability to see in visible light as well as ultraviolet light. They often light their palaces with both, turning off the natural lighting to give trespassers a false sense of stealth. Desite the sheer bulk of their flesh, Hutts do not have a skeleton. Instead, an internal mantle helps shape the head and support the arms, while the rest of their body is simply one large, snail-like foot.

The skin of a Hutt is incredibly thick, and is covered with a mixture of mucus and oily sweat. This makes the skin able to resist harsh chemicals and even some blaster bolts. Below the epidermis is a thick layer of blubber that helps maintain body temperature and makes it impossible to puncture their skin with a knife.

Hutts are also hermaphroditic, often choosing to appear as one sex or the other for the benefit of their audience. Young Hutts spend their first year of life inside a pouch on their mother's belly, and are virtually mindless. They live near their mothers for several decades after birth, returning to their pouches when they are scared or tired. Young Hutts aren't considered accountable until they are well over 100 years old.

All Hutts have a given name, which is supported by their clan name and their surname (eg., Jabba Desilijic Tiure). The history of the Hutt race can be traced to the early times before the formation of the Old Republic. They were a strong force even then, dominating large portions of the space surrounding their homeworld.

After the discovery of the hyperdrive, the Hutts began expanding their territories, but ran into Xim the Despot. Xim and the Hutts fought several fierce battle near the uninhabited world of Vontor, until the Hutts discovered the Si'Klaata Cluster and the strong, warrior-like races it hid. The Hutts managed to sign the Klatooinans, Niktos, and Vodrans into perpetual servitude, and used many warriors during the Third Battle of Vontor. This was the decisive battle against Xim, and left the Hutts in control of large areas of the galaxy.

However, the Hutts could not escape their own greedy nature, and soon began to covet each other's holdings. Interclan wars broke out, and the clans eventually broke off relations with each other. When they realized that this was bad for business, they began exchanging messengers.

The Hutts took to killing the messengers if they didn't like the message, but this further impaired business. So, the Hutts made a pact which recognized messengers as sacrosanct. As a race, Hutts do not trust any other races, atrait that stems from an incident in which all prominent Hutts on Nal Hutta were executed by an assassin. I've got a better one for you:

    [image=http://www.starwars.com/databank/character/maxrebo/img/movie_bg.jpg]

How does Max Rebo eat or breath? He doesn't have a mouth or nostrils! He must be struggling because in RotJ his trunk moves in ways that trunks shouldn't move.

    And like that...he's gone.
