So my mom's handling a bunch of costumes for a play, and someone spilt spirit gum all over one of the costumes. It's a black poly-taffeta dress and we want to know how to remove the spirit gum without ruining the fabric. Anyone have any good ideas?

I thought about nail polish remover or just spirit gum remover, but we're worried that it'll stain the dress.

    Any suggestions?

Oxyclean! Billy Mays swears it will take stains out of anything!

Ok, that was sarcastic... sorry. I am not sure how to go about getting spirit gum removed from fabric without ruining it. Try the local dry cleaner, maybe?

I'll do some asking around. If I find out anything, I'll let you know.

99% isopropyl alcohol. That's pretty much what spirit gum remover is with a few additives to make it less harsh on skin.

But it won't damage the fabric at all?

Test it on an inconspicuous part of the dress, perhaps?
