So, I saw that this is now available for Xbox Live (along with other devices) and was wondering if any of you have tried it out yet.

Basically, I want to know if it will eliminate the need for a DVR in my house as the DVR provided by our cable company kind of sucks.

My fiancee needs to watch new episodes of Glee and the Real Housewives of New Jersey as soon as she comes home from work, for example. So does anyone know if Hulu Plus will provide streaming content the same day that the content airs on TV?

If you only watch Fox, ABC, and NBC-- plus scattered cable shows from their parent companies such as Daily Show and Mythbusters-- then it'd totally replace your cable. And the time a new episode is available is the same as free Hulu, which means it varies by program. Universally, though, it is not available on the same day-- the day after (past midnight) at the earliest.

Really, Hulu can answer your questions.

I already read that, but I was wondering if anyone here has any first-hand experience with Hulu Plus.

And yeah, I figured that it wouldn't be same-as-airdate-streaming. :(

The only difference between hulu plus and hulu free is access to HD video streams and access to more full seasons/movies. So you might get the full current season of a show and all its past seasons, but you're not going to get them any faster than free hulu.

Yeah, hulu plus won't meet the needs of your fiancee. It sucks, actually, you pay $8 a month and still have to watch ads. You know, if you want first hand experience, there is a week long free trial available.

The ads aren't really a big deal. They're much shorter than the breaks on television and I think the biggest reason Hulu has them is to convince advertisers to pay attention to online view counts. Netflix doesn't have to worry about that because 1) it doesn't own any of the shows and 2) it doesn't stream any current seasons.

Yeah, I'm gonna try that. I think it's actually a month free on Xbox Live.

The one month free trial should be more then enough time to find out whether or not the Xbox is a worthy babysitter.
