As Star Wars blasts forward into Episode III and beyond, the Fan Club has come home to Lucasfilm for the first time since 1987, and is offering more to fans than ever before.

To accomplish this, Lucasfilm has joined Hyperspace, Star Wars Insider and the Fan Club together for the first time. Membership in Hyperspace: The Official Star Wars Fan Club brings you the greatest benefits package ever. When you sign up with the Fan Club, you get:

-one year of access to starwars.com Hyperspace

-six-issue one year subscription to Star Wars Insider magazine

    - membership kit

    - discounts and early purchases at StarWarsShop.com

    - access to member-only fan events

    - interaction with your local and global fan community

All of this and much more are yours for a single annual membership price of just $39.95 in the U.S. and $49.95 in Canada.

So any initial thoughts? I gave myself a day to cool off about this, but it didn't work. As someone who likes to remain spoiler-free (and save some money), I think it's not right that I'll have to pay more for membership in a club for something I don't want, namely a membership in the hyperspace web site. I don't understand why we can't have an option to just get the Insider at a lower rate and remain a fan club member. I enjoy the membership kits and have no real problems with starwarsshop.com (yet) and I love the Insider. But now it's gonna be $10+ more to keep everything that I was already getting. Heck, you can get "interaction with your local and global fan community" here for free! Ultimately, the only change they've made is jacked up the price and forced "Hyperspace" on us.

I saw that yesterday. I already have Hyperspace, and if it meant I could get Insider I would gladly pay one price for both. But for areas outside the US & CA, they have 'International Hyperspace', where you get the Fan Club membership and Hyperspace for one price, but no Insider or membership package! So that is of even less use!

I wish I had known this was happening.

When the Grievous documentary hit I finally broke down and joined Hyperspace by itself.

So now I have almost a full year of Hyperspace only...which is a bit disappointing, because I would've gladly shelled out the extra cash for the new full deal.

It would've been nice if they had offered say a $10 deal to upgrade your account in a situation like mine.

Notice the other great part? We were getting 8 issues of Insider per year, and now it's dropping back down to 6. I'm seriously thinking about dropping my membership, 'cause I just can't afford it...

Oh, who am I kidding, I'll never drop this membership.

I'm not sure what I think about this yet. It ticks me off to see that they are cutting back on the number of Insiders they will release in a year but then charging us more.....hmmm...the StarWarsShop benefit better be a good one.

I, for one, see no positive to this. Less Insiders, Hyperspace membership (that I'm not interested in), an unspecific "benefit" connected to SWS.com (which hasn't had a great track record lately on having decent prices or shipping speed), and a higher price.

I agree with the idea that it would be nice to have it where we can get just what we want for less price, ie. just get Insider and membership in the club.

I agree with what has been said so far. I to wish that you could just get the Insider with out getting Hyperspace. I have no intrest in it. Heck I ever won 1 free year in the Jedi Master Points auction and never sent in my points.

It's also disapointing to the Insider go from 8 issues a year back down to 6. With so much going on with Star Wars there is no need to cut it back. I could see doing it 2 or 3 years from now.

I think that my membership comes up due in 5 or 6 issues. So will I renew? Yes because I like the Insider. Hey I have every on from since issue 32. Plus I want to see what they do for the fans at CIII.

Pretty sure, they get more money out of us by making us pay extra to import the damn thing.

If it ever does change it wouldn't happen anytime in the near future as it comes back to they get more money out of us by doing it this way.

Edit: I just had a look our magazine's RRP is £4.75
which should be about $9 US

This is the information it had listed as part of a package for the UK fan club

Subscribe to STAR WARS Magazine and automatically become a member of The Official UK STAR WARS Fan Club. Members now get much more! With the combined subscription and membership package over the course of the year you'll receive:

? Six editions of STAR WARS Magazine

? Two fantastic A2 posters featuring exclusive artwork

    ? Two unique Art Cards

? Exclusive members prices for merchandise in Jawa Trader -- typically saving you 10 percent

? A membership card that entitles you to a 10 percent discount at participating Forbidden Planet Stores.*

One year membership costs £21.00 a year UK (£25.00 Eire/Europe)

And that's about $35 for that roughly (not sure what the conversion is today so maybe a bit more)

    hi:

Damm this look good to me! but saddly i just pay for my resubscription and now this... well you never know what Lucas and co. have in mind.

And for the issue that people live here and there an cannot receive this insider or the uk magazines, etc.

    BS

I live in Paraguay (South America) and for ages and years i've been subscribed to the insider and the uk magazine fan and recently the mexican edition. All thanks to curriers and P.O mail boxes. Also you can shop where ever you want i the world online. Is cool. And it works.

Of course you have to own a credit card or ask a friend a favor.

As a die hard fan i have todo anything in my posibilities and is not that expensive.

    have a nice day...

UK people have tried joining the US club and the only way they would allow it was if we lived in the US or gave them a US address. So yes it is possible but not practical.

No offence but why would you want the UK magazine it's a bad rip off version of insider :p
