This thread is for discussing such paradoxes as:
The 'No Attachments' Rule of the Jedi
    vs
the Sith driving away/killing their loved ones in a bid for power.

That's the main one that interests me, but I'm fairly sure there are others. I'm just interested in seeing what other people think of them.

Just to clarify are you saying they're hypocritical on their own or hypocritical because it's a sort of no attatchment rule that both orders have in common?

Either. This is a discussion thread, after all.

A hypocrite is one who says they believe one thing but they actually do another.

Within Star Wars, I find no hypocracy in the Sith whatsoever. Their aim is for power at any expense. In the Jedi I think many mistake them for hypocrites because they lost the battle. But I don't see it that way. They we're afterall only mortal and they tried to maintain what they believed in. Even when Mace was willing to kill Sidious; he was doing so in defence of the Republic, not out of some personal feeling like fear or ego. He knew the nature of the Sith and how dangerous they can be. Also their ability to use the force (for knowledge) had been diminished by the shroud of the dark side. This essentially cut them off from hearing the will of the force.

Which is why I don't see the Jedi or the Sith as hypocrites as well.

Granted, 'hypocrisy' may have been the wrong word.

I think I mean it more as the things the Jedi and Sith have in common - like with the no attachments thing: they both get the same ultimate effect.

    I hope that's clearer.
