I Can't Figure Out this Quote!

I fancy myself something of a movie buff, I guess, and whenever I hear quote, I can usually recite the film immediately. Occassionally it takes me a while; for this one, however, I can't figure it out. It's been bothering me for a while now, and I ask you, dear JCC, to answer it for me.

The quote: "This is why we don't have nice things!"

It may be: "This is why we can't have nice things!"

It's been a topic of conversation around my apartment for a few days now, and the time has come for it to be solved.
