I hate packing/moving!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to say how much packing and the whole moving process sucks. I moved out of my parents house last October and when I packed up, I vowed that I would get rid of all the misc crap that I have lying around my room. But when I unpacked, i decided that I was way to lazy to do it. Now I am getting ready to move again and this time I am actually doing it. Its amazing how much junk one can build up over the course of life. I already donated 3 trash bags of clothes I never wore to Goodwill today.

Tell me stories of your moving experiences

 

Well, even though I've never moved, I did clean up a bunch of old junk in my room/closet the other day. I couldn't believe some of the junk I had kept. lol.

 

I hate it too I'm still unpacking and getting rid of stuff from my most recent move.

 

I have got bags of misc crap from the last few Comic Cons and old paintball magazines that I don't ever read anymore. Man is that trash can gonna be full later.

 

Congratulations on moving out of your parent's house. You have just done what many JCCers have failed to do before you...

I can generally pack everything I need minus my furniture into a few duffle bags. Which means I'm not a huge consumer, and therefore better than you.
one time though, when me and my two roommates moved out of our dorm room (the rule is 2 people per dorm, but we snuck a third person in to make it cheaper) we all took our bags and went separate ways and I had left my cell phone charger in Alex's bag, and I had was awaiting a callback from a job I had applied for and my phone was dying and arrrrrgggghhhh it was awful.

 

Well I have personally moved a LOT in my life because my parents never can stay put... but my goodness I still haven't gotten rid of HALF my stuff... that starts Sept 1st... Each part of my room is going to be sorted and practically everything will be THROWN away... So babe you will hear me whining about my moving in a week or so...

But, my best moving story was when I moved to Santa Cruz my senior year of H.S. and I started packing the day before I left... BAD CALL... I still don't have half my stuff from my original room

I'm moving this weekend - get the keys to the new place on Friday but after nearly 10 years in this same area/complex it's going to be a pain - tomorrow is
sort and dump, thursday is more sort and dump. Friday is d day.....

 

I worked for a moving company in college.

I WOULD LOVE TO UNPACK AND STAY PUT, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!!! I plan on staying in my apartment for at least 2 years!!! Then moving to SUNNY southern cali... and hopefully staying there forever...

 

Never happens. Unfortunately.

I actually do a purge every couple months.

As for moving, I just moved out of my parents' house. It's kind of odd to know that I have four boxes of Star Wars stuff (that's not counting the two boxes of SW books alone).

But the thing that really sucked was my room was really small. So there was no room for boxes, the hallway outside my room was barely wide enough to spread my arms width wise and so there was no place to walk and no place to move in genral. The hard thing was moving everything into storage...in the middle of summer in AZ.

What's going to be the hardest, and worst part, is when everything gets to my (new) house. Unpacking...I don't so much mind packing. As long as it's organized. Thing with unpacking is, finding homes for everything...and the cleaning of those homes for all my stuff. Let's just hope I get OCD...makes everything go smoother.

 

I ended up down-sizing quite a bit, before my last move.

Not that I had a choice, but leaky steam pipes and being away on vacation for two weeks, tend to render a lot of your furniture useless.

So yeah...

I moved out of my friend's apartment 2 months ago. Despite filling up 7 boxes, I still wasn't able to bring everything with me. First thought was, "holy hell, I have a lot of stuff!"

And that's not even the worst part!

If any of y'all are planning a cross-country move, do not use DHL! I arrived in Michigan on a Wednesday, 2 days before my boxes did. While that's to be expected, what wasn't was the state my boxes were in. I had double, and even triple, taped them on the sides and they still ended up looking like hell! When they arrived, 5 out of the 7 boxes were split open down the one of the corners and I'm very lucky nothing fell out along the way.

 

I totally sat through that 5 times.

 

I'm not gonna lie... me too!

 

Tony I totally relate. We loaded our U-haul up on the 11th and arrived in the Chicago area on the 15th. I thought we had gotten rid of everything we didn't need but I still have boxes of stuff I have no idea why I packed it and brought it with us. Good luck with your move. I was happy nothing got broken in the move. Some of our boxes came open and we had to pick up the spilled items from the floor but nothing was broken and I don't think we left anything important behind. We made our move a lot easier by deciding not to bring much of our furniture with us. Most of it had been given to us anyway and we were not fond of it. It made moving nicer because we didn't have to carry in heavy/awkward furniture by ourselves.

 

I'm moving back to uni in just over three weeks. I've already started packing as it's going to take me ages to get it all done.

 

I unloaded all my junk into my ex-girlfriend's space, once.
It was very hard squeezing in her back door.

I persevered though and it was worth it!

I hate moving too. In the past five years we've moved three times. My hubby swears we're never moving again. We'll just kick the neighbor out of our duplex and knock down the wall to have a house

 

i hate moving but do it every couple of years bc i have "the grass is greener" syndrome. Makes it easier bc my fam owns a moving company. it's a rough rough rough bus
