I plan to read the novel "I, Jedi," but I heard that it was inter-connected with the Jedi Academy Trilogy. Should I read the Jedi Academy trilogy first, or will I understand "I, Jedi" without reading the trilogy? Some people say that the Jedi Academy trilogy isn't that good of a story, so I don't know if I should read it.

I don't think you need to read JAT to understand I, Jedi. Yes, many say that the trilogy isn't that good, but many also say that it captures the flavor of Star Wars very well. It's your choice. I, Jedi is excellent, though.

Personally, I can't stand Kevin J. Anderson's writing. Unfortunately, he's the author of the Jedi Academy Trilogy. Even more unfortunately, yeah, reading the JAT will enhance the effect of I, Jedi.

I only read Dark Apprentice and Champions of the Force before reading I, Jedi, though. I think the most important novel to read in order to enhance I, Jedi would be Dark Apprentice.
Champions of the Force can also help, too. I don't think it's necessary for you to read Jedi Search. I wouldn't recommend punishing through KJA's writing any more than you have to.

The only thing I like about KJA is that he created Kyp. But his writing of Kyp Durron is horrible, too, in my opinion.
There really isn't anything good about the JAT, at least to my eyes. KJA is utterly horrible at writing Luke Skywalker, too. Just...horrible.

The writing in I, Jedi is so much better than KJA's JAT!

    I hope I've helped... :)

I'd reccommend reading JAT before I, Jedi. It's not necessary, but it kind of makes it more fun as you see things in the JAT from Corran's viewpoint.

I feel the JAT is better to read first, but not essential

reading JAT is harmless, at worst its a light read that wont take you long to get thru...for me reading the trilogy first sweetened I, Jedi but it is by no means necessary; stockpole is just that good a storyteller! if you're really concerned by how bad JAT might be to you, just borrow from a friend or your local library

I'd highly recommend reading the JAT first. The only problem with this is that you may find the first two hundred pages of I, Jedi boring if you do. I didn't have this problem, though. Stackpole did a good job and kept it interesting even though I already knew what would happen.

Whatever you decide, though, I'm sure you'll enjoy I, Jedi. :)

I personally say it doesn't matter which you read first, though reading I, Jedi first will give practically all of the JAT away. I liked the JAT, and I loved I, Jedi. The decision of which you read first is yours

I absolutly loved the first person story telling in I, Jedi. I didn't enjoy the JAT at all, but I would suggest you read it first. It's fun to go "I know that part! That's when...." and so on.

    *Warning Spoiler*

The best fight scene was when mara and corron fought in a dark room. And the only light was thier lightsabers and floating shoting balls.

I liked the Corran's moonlighting as a Star Wars version of The Shadow on Corkous - "The Great Hutt Roast" had me doubled over laughing.

I, Jedi was a great book. I really liked the 1st person story telling. The only SW book to do it. I'm trying to use that style in a fan fic now. It can't hurt to read JAT before I, Jedi but it might be better to read the X-Wing books by MAS.

Read JAT first. It's horrible but you want to read it eventually.I,Jeci actually makes JAT better books.
I think it kind of shows how weak KJA's hold of the story was that Stackpole could just insert a character and major events into the same mould at the same time.
Still read JAT.At the very least, just read the parts with the academy.Skip anything with Daala. It'll be just like the BFC,Read Leia and skip the rest.

A few inquries, I let my friend read "I, Jedi" and he had a couple of questions that I couldn't answer because he has my book. So here's the first couple: What ship was the "Bootyfull" again? Was it Boosters? Also, what is "home one"? Thanks.

I'm also in the very small minority that didn't care for "I, Jedi." If you're going to read it, I definitely recommend reading the Jedi Academy Trilogy first.
