Hey everyone!! I'm new to the forum and I hope this is not a repeat thread. Can anyone help me? I am now in the testing stages of making a fan film. My boys and I have recorded a few seconds of us swinging our lightsabers for post production. The shot was no more than 6 seconds but when we opened the video file in the computer it was huge. Any help or suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

OOPS!!! I forgot to mention that I am using MGI videowave 4. Maybe this will make it easier for you to help me.

As I understand from your first post, you have shot a sequence of 6 seconds of you and your friends fighting, and you're about to add the lightsaber effect ?
If this is the case, I'd recommend not compressing your video file right away. Add your effect first, and when it's done you can compress it. If you compress it first, you'll lose quality, and you'll end up having to compress it again once the lightsabers are in, which isn't good either for image quality.

If you really want to compress it before working with it, though, use the Animation codec. It will reduce the filesize by half and you won't lose any quality.

I've never used VideoWave, but in most programs, the compression method can be chosen from a drop-down menu during the "Export" stage.

And I recommend the DivX Codec, myself. :)
