I'm sorry that the above question can sound lame or newbie-esque, but it has been a long time since I don't keep updated with the coolest and most recent SW games.

The last time that I played a SW videgame it was Nintendo 64's Rogue Squadron, but my brother sold it more than 3 years ago. I can say that I miss that game. It was pretty cool.

The last time that I played a SW computer game it was Jedi Knight, since it's the best that my Pentium 233Mhz can run, but I played it to boredom, since it's the only SW game that I have been playing in my computer for the last 3 years.

I think about buying something for the next Xmas that allows me to play the coolest SW games (Rogue Squadron included), so what do you think would be the best for me? Upgrade my computer? Or should I buy a videogame? And wich one would be the best for SW games?

Thank you in advance for all suggestions. :)

Well, I'd say the Xbox could offer you the coolest Star Wars Games:

    Star Wars Galaxies
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic
    Jedi Outcast

    And some other okay ones:
    Obi-Wan
    Jedi Starfighter

Okay, so you can't get Rogue Leader with it, but its not that big a loss. The game isn't THAT great.

They are for computer, right? What are the minimum requirements, that a computer should have to run them decently?

Yeah, actually most of those games are coming out for or already are out for computer.

In order to run these well your going to need to do a serious upgrade on your PC. It would be cheaper just to buy an Xbox not to mention that the Xbox bundles two games with it. Sega GT and Jet Grind Radio Future (awsome game). And then you can do some Star Wars gaming on your couch infront of a big TV. :D

If you click those links they will take you to their official site where you can find some movies of the games in action. Aswell as the PC specs required, just incase your thinking of upgrading. If your goal is upgrading just to play Star Wars games then you might aswell grab an Xbox it's a lot cheaper.

The X-Box is the first console system (think "Nintendo 64", "Sony Playstation") put out by Microsoft..

The X-box is Micro$oft's video game console offerring.

I'd actually say you'd be better off with a Gamecube or maybe a PS2 for Star Wars games:

Gamecube- Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader (if you loved RS, RL is amazing), The Clone Wars (similar vein to the RS series, VERY VERY fun!), Bounty Hunter (3rd person action shooter with Jango Fett), Jedi Knight ][: Jedi Outcast.

PS2- Starfighter (somewhat similar to the RS series, but with a better and more elaborate storyline, set around Episode 1), Jedi Starfighter (sequel to the above, set around Episode 2), Racer Revenge (podracing game), as well as Clone Wars and Bounty Hunter (although the PS2 version's graphics in those games aren't quite as good as the Gamecube ones), in addition, you'd have access to PS1 games such as Demotion (vehicular combat game ala Twisted Metal), Jedi Power Battles (sidescrolling arcade-style gauntlet-esque action game) and Masters of Teras Kai (fighting game).

X-Box has Obi-Wan (terrible, terrible game) and ports of Jedi Outcast and the two Starfighter games. Galaxies and KOTOR will be cool, but won't be out for quite awhile though and both will be available on PC eventually, so you'll probably have access to them next time you upgrade your computer (which sounds like it will happen before or around they actually come out)

I think, in the end, the GCN has the best balance of quality SW titles, while the PS2 has the win in the quantity area if you factor in PS1 games. XB is a distant third. Computer upgrade should be an option to consider as well for the future ::)

Sure the Cube and PS2 have their share of Star Wars games. But when it comes down to it the PC and Xbox will have the Star Wars games that matter. I mean come on Bounty Hunter and Clone Wars compete with Galaxies and KOTOR? Now thats just insane. Clone Wars has been getting some mediocre reviews. And Bounty Hunter is gauranted to get some ho-hum reviews. Just like Jedi Starfighter and Star Fighter. Galaxies alone will be worth the investment it's like playing three Star Wars game at once. If you can only make the decsion between a PC upgrade or a console. Then your best bet is to go with either of the two that offer Galaxies, KOTOR or Outcast. It's as simple as that. Forget about the console wars and focus on the cool gaming experiances these titles will provide.

...well, it looks like Galaxies is also going to be available for the PS2..(but it's ALSO an ONLINE RPG.. Sure, the concept is cool, but when i pay for a game, i should be allowed to play it.> I shouldn't have to KEEP ON PAYING for the rest of my life..Heck, even if you raise the original buying price of Online RPGS, i'd be willing to pay that.)

The Sony System DOES offer you access to the highest volume of Star Wars games..

Knights of the Old Republic LOOKS cool, but i've heard some very poor word of mouth reviews of it from people who have had a chance to actually give the game a test run.... And you gotta figure it'll go multiplatform at some point( what recent Star Wars game hasn't?)

    >>I mean come on Bounty Hunter and Clone Wars compete with Galaxies and KOTOR? Now thats just insane.<<

Can't speak for BH, but they are different game types- I personally love arcade-like SW action games like Clone Wars, SF, JSF, RS, RL, BFN, etc; they're just a pure blast to play. Thats not saying the RPGs won't be good- I look forward to them myself (I'll probably even go buy a low cost PC if I can't get SWG to emulate properly on VPC), but in terms of overall enjoyment and fun factor, yeah, CW, etc can certainly compete with SWG and KOTOR.

    >>Clone Wars has been getting some mediocre reviews.<<

Most of the ones I've read have been above-average, and you'll note the reactions in the Clone Wars thread on this board is pretty much very very positive.

    >>And Bounty Hunter is gauranted to get some ho-hum reviews. Just like Jedi Starfighter and Star Fighter.<<

I won't speak for BH, but while JSF and SF weren't quite as good as the Rogue Squadron or Clone Wars games, they were still pretty fun, and the storyline was interesting.

    >>Galaxies alone will be worth the investment it's like playing three Star Wars game at once. If you can only make the decsion between a PC upgrade or a console. I suppose it depends on what your favorite SW game genre is- I'd rather have RL and CW on my system than KOTOR, and while I'll miss out on Galaxies, I'll still have Outcast on the GCN along with RL, CW, BH, etc- so it balances out, although SWG and KOTOR dooesn't come out till later next year, IIRC.

Isn't there a "SW version" of Age of Empires? Looks cool, because I've always been an addicted to the original AOE. Tell me about it.

Playing a SW game in the big screen and using a jostick make a lot of difference. This Xbox looks nice. What SW games were made for it?

The SW "AOE" is called Galactic Battlegrounds, which also has an expansion called Clone Campaigns. It's only available on Mac/PC.

X-Box has the following SW titles: Obi-Wan (currently the only SW game that is found exclusively on the system, unfortunately, it's also a terrible game), Starfighter & Jedi Starfighter (ports from the PS2 game) and Jedi Knight ][: Jedi Outcast (port of the PC game, also on GCN).

However, the RPG "Knights of the Old Republic" and online RPG "Star Wars Galaxies" will be coming out for it later next year.

And, again, for reference of the games available on other gaming consoles:

Nintendo Gamecube: Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader (sequel to the N64 game, only on GCN), The Clone Wars (also on PS2), Bounty Hunter (also on PS2) and Jedi Knight ][: Jedi Outcast (port of the PC game, also on XB).

Sony Playstation 2: Starfighter, Jedi Starfighter, Racer Revenge, The Clone Wars and Bounty Hunter + a variety of older games that were released on the original Playstation system.

So, Gallactic Battlegrounds is available only for computer, right? Makes sense, since strategy games are only good played on computer.

I think it would be better for me to upgrade my system, then. Simply because almost SW games that matter are or will be available for PC, and it will allow me also to play "oldies" like Rogue Squadron and Jedi Knight, with all their expansions. In fact I'm already being able to play Rogue Squadron at my pre-historic PC, but it's kinda slow.

And please, don't use those shorts too much, or I will not be able to follow the discussion. Remember that I've not been into games for a long time. :)

If your PC is the problem you can always get X-Wing trilogy which has the best of the Flight sims. X-Box has a good deal where you get two games if you buy it. The GC is cheap. Also if you get a PS2 you can play the PS1 SW games as well as the PS2 games.

    SW: Star Wars
KOTOR: Knights of the Old Republic
    SWG: Star Wars Galaxies
    RL: Rogue Leader

Just upgrade your computer. And *perhaps*, if you have enough money, pick up a GameCube. The PC has pretty much all of the games that have or are coming out for Xbox, as well as many of the PS2 titles. And GameCube has Rogue Leader (which, if you liked Rogue Squadron, will bring much happiness ;)) plus the multi-platform titles. But, if you're trying to be frugal, I'd say your best bet would be to just stick with the PC. :)

Then your best bet would be to upgrade your PC. That way you could get:

X-Wing Alliance (Space Fighter Sim. great game)
    Galatic BattleGrounds (AOE strategy)
JK Outcast (FPS/ 3rd person light saber fighting)
Galaxies (MMORPG, 2000 people playing at the same time)
Knights Of The Old Republic (Bioware/Star Wars RPG)

Then your second bet would be an Xbox
Of course that means you wouldn't get Galatic Battle Grounds or X-Wing Alliance.

PS2 dosen't get Jedi Outcast, Galatic Battlegrounds, XWA or Knights Of The Old Republic.

Gamecube Dosen't get Galaxies or Knights of the Old Republic, XWA or Galatic BattleGrounds.

Point being is that the second choice has the most of the must have Star Wars games. Clone Wars and Bounty Hunter I would hardly call must haves. They are the average Star Wars games. If getting an average Star Wars game means losing out on the great Star Wars games then whats the point.

Actually, I would call Clone Wars a must have, the game is a real blast to play, has a good challenge level to it, a decent story with some of the best voice work ever done for a SW game, and a fun multiplayer mode ::)

And, composite beam turrets rule, of course ::)

If we're dealing with what is already out there, I'd say the PC gets the nod:

    X-Wing Alliance
    Jedi Knight
    Jedi Outcast

With the future offerings, I'm siding with Rabid_Balding_Ewok---The Xbox has the best to offer with KOTOR and Galaxies. There is even Outcast, except I am pissed that they didn't include a 4-player mode. I don't think the Rogue Squadron series compares with the X-Wing/Tie Fighter series, and I think BH will be a very mediocre game (Why the Hell did Jango get his own game again?).

Well, they are different- I prefer fast arcade-like action to flight simulation though ::)

    >>and I think BH will be a very mediocre game (Why the Hell did Jango get his own game again?).<<

Jangos a popular character, and with all the gizmos and weapons he's got in that mandalorian armor of his, lends itself well, in theory, to a video game. While I'm sure BH won't be the best of the current crop of SW games, it could still be pretty good (we know the story will be at least)- GCN version doesn't come out till the 5th, though, so I won't be able to say till then.

..yeah, if you're a fan of Rogue Squadron and the Starfighter-style games, i'd definitely call "Clone Wars" a must-have.

The variety of different craft that you can pilot really keeps the game fresh and fun.
