When actor Ian McDiarmid, who played Emperor Palpatine in the films, was asked if he'd be making an appearance in the series, he replied, "I always answer my telephone." He also stated, "nobody really knows the details of the television series, I don't think that's because people are being particularly coy. I just think a lot of things haven't been decided yet. But I know that George's intention is to follow one of the characters who's been less highlighted up to now, but has been very popular with audiences. And sure, if it's the period between the movies, the Emperor has to be referred to. But you'll remember he was referred to often without actually appearing in the first Star Wars movie. And Peter Cushing was his very effective representative. So, I suspect there might be a number of very effective representatives."

Sounds liek he is very mush open to the idea. Maybe we'll get him in a season finale or something.

I just hope we get him period. I think Ian would add an element to the series that no one else can bring.

I think he is guaranteed to be in it.

As he was in a two part drama for british tv about Queen Elizabeth.

So, he obviously likes appearing in tv shows.

I'm not quite sure what that has to do with him appearing in the SW TV Show but hopefully he will get a part.

It would add a lot to have the Emperor appear at certain pivotal moments.

And as McDiarmid says, a good representative such as someone like Tarkin helps build suspense through having a representative of the Shroud of the Darkside around until the real Darkside leader Sidious shows up at key moments.

Yes but I was thinkin git'd be hard to have the Emperor without Vader.

Not really, as seen in the movies Vader isn't always at the Emperor's side. Besides, why can't we have both? Anyone can play the body of Vader, then you just get JEJ to do a few lines and *boom* Vader baby! I can picture him doing small cameo appearences as opposed to huge story arcs all about Palpatine. Maybe some scenes of someone watching him address the senate on the holonet or something.

I wonder if he is going to wear his trademark black robes? In ROTS he looked identical to ROTJ in the black robes, but the brown robes and the maroon robs didn't cover his face enough and were too light in color, which really ruined his make-up job.

It would be cool to have Ian as Palpatine, and I agree it would be very easy to get any big man to play Vader. JEJ is doing CNN promos and Verison commercials and then he did the last scene in ROTS so I don't know why he'd object.

Here's the deal though, if Lucas want's big ratings he has to have Vader. Elude to him, reference him, whatever, but Vader must be in it in some capacity. It could be like back when the A-Team was on T.V. and what's-his-name (the guy that used to chase the A-Team in every episode). Vader could always be a threat or whatever, but still have the show about something else. I think that would be the best medium.

There were quite a few of them, but the longest-lasting one (the second, I believe) was Colonel Decker, along with his henchman Captain Crane.

    Yeah, I was a big A-Team fan.

Yeah, Decker was hardly ever actually a part of the show, but it was always well known that he was the reason the A-Team had to be moving on. Heck, maybe Lucas could do an A-Team like show: a bunch of Rebels going around the universe, helping people, planting the seeds of the rebelion against the Empire, and then Vader or other Emperial agents are always a step away from catching them. Then they could visit many planets, people, story-lines, etc..., and incorperate some (not too much) EU stuff, some characters, worlds, & other stuff from the movies and then introduce new stuff as well. I just wouldn't want it to be as corny/cheesy as the A-Team was (I still love the A-Team - I just don't want that style for Star Wars).

Ian is a class act all his own.
Temeura Morrison also expressed interest (so there'd be no shortage of stormies if needed! Weee!)
Mayhew and Daniels genuinely love the roles they have so they'd be open.
Smits is used to TV and I believe has also expressed interest, as did O' Rielly. So we could have some solid Rebellion scenes in there.
Rebellion episodes could make use of Smits, O' Rielly, Daniels, Morrison, and Mc Diarmid all of who have expressed interest. (It'd also give good ol' Mr. Bulloch a chance to play Captain Colton again who has also expressed interest!)
Daniel Logan has expressed interest and is somewhere around twenty now I believe. So Fett's a strong factor.
Ewan and Hayden have also given Lucas the go-ahead to call them.
So, basically, they could make Episode III.V if they really wanted to.
I think it's just plain awesome that so many people are open to be called upon!

I don't see why Hayden would appear on the television series. About the only thing that he would be needed for is him appearing in his chamber unmasked. That would kinda damage the mistique of the Chamber in the OT.

Palps has a cool interview on IGN.

Speaking of Ian McDiarmid's recent projects, he was in two British productions for television this year. One was Our Hidden Lives and the other was Elizabeth I. Our Hidden Lives was particularly fun due to his shirtless scene! There are screencaps from these two productions in the photos area of the Ian McDiarmid Yahoo Message Board Group. See link below.

Well Hayden seemed really excited about just wearing the suit, so he may not be against being masked for the whole show (or almost the whole show).

From what Ian said, it sounds like he's very open to the idea of appearing as Palps in the TV show. It'd be great to see him a few times. Also, I'm sure if Palps has to appear, Ian will be #1 pick for casting, and sounds like he'll do it unless be can't find the ime in his schedule.

It would be great if they cast lots of actors from ROTS. That would bring a much higher sense of realism and Star Wars-ism to it. I'm sure Anthony Daniels ould do it since he seems to love the character of Threepio. As said above, Jimmy Smits has TV experience, and could play Bail if he wanted to. And it'd be great to see him and O'Rielly together leading the rebellion. If Morrison wants to do it that would be wonderful, and I believe that he would want to do it since he's already gone way past what he needed to with Jango's character such as voicing one of the characters for Republic Commando. Daniel Logan, like Morrison, also seems to be really into his character, and I wouldn't be surprised if he signed on for Boba. It'd also be cool if Jeremy Bulloch played Colton. NOw if we can just find out about the guy who played Antilles [face_thinking] :p

And what about this audience favorite that Ian was talking about. I wonder who that is. It probably isn't a Jedi since all teh ones we really saw died. I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being about Bail, who is kick ass! :D Watch it end up being about Dxter or something :p

Well I love Bail Organa, and i woudnt mind Dexter in the series at all(though I dont know what his purpose would be). But lets see, the character is one who hasnt been explored alot but is a fan favorite. And Rick McCallum even said on the official site that the show will be about Bounty Hunters mainly and that Boba Fett will be involved, so hm........Im thinking the Fett Man.

I could be wrong though, it could be about Dex, which would be freakin AWESOME!!!

I also read somewhere(official) that Ewan would be interested in reprising his Obi-Wan role, if needed.

    Writers being hired this winter!
Series to be darker, grittier, and more character driven.
