I never read any of the books which supposedly take place after Return of the Jedi, Except I know Han and Leia have children. Would it be about Luke rebuilding the Jedi Council on Coruscant and training younglings to be Jedi? Will there be a new Sith threat? Will it heavily focus on Han Solo and Princess Leia's children? Also could Mark Hamill reprise his role as Luke Skywalker for a sequel trilogy if Episode 7 took place many years after Return of the Jedi? I can see Mark playing an aged Luke Skywalker.

EDIT: Look above for the What do you want in another live action film thread :)

I think most people would say "Thrawn Trilogy" for at least one or two movies. Maybe pull a Prequel Trilogy where we have a BIG time gap (10 years) between a pair of movies so we can get two major post-Return storylines in.

They would certainly not follow the EU. It would piss a lot of people off I'm sure, as it would pretty much completely decannonize all that stuff. Lucas has said many times that the six films exist alone--and then there are the games, eu, etc. 7-9, which I am actually starting to believe will be made now, would allow lucas to surprise the audience again.

I think there are actually two questions here:

If you're asking, what would people like to see, the answers will vary but it seems like the Thrawn trilogy is a always popular, as well as things like origin stories for the Republic and the Jedi.

If you're asking about what Lucas actually planned for the Sequel Trilogy, the answer is a bit more complicated. SW went through a process of development in the late 1970s that included an 'infinite' series, with episodes in no particular order, later shortened to twelve not-necessarily-ordered episodes, later shortened and reorganized into nine films comprising three trilogies.

That last plan is where the Sequel Trilogy comes from; the OT was to be the middle part. Even at this point (1979 or so) it seems like the concepts for the sequels were much more vague than those for the prequels (the lava planet, following young Obi-Wan and Anakin's turn to the dark side, the Clone Wars, etc).

There's been a lot of discussion of this on this board, and from what we can tell, the Sequel Trilogy probably would take place a similar amount of time after the OT as the PT did before it. It would thematically focus on moral choices and the meaning of being a Jedi, and the plot would follow the rebuilding of the Republic.

The main protagonist may have been the Other mentioned in ESB, who was not originally intended to be Leia. This character might have been initially slated to be introduced in SW3 (what became ROTJ). In the rough draft of ESB, Luke's sister Nellith Skywalker is being trained at the same time as he is, elsewhere in the galaxy. The Other storyline may have followed this concept.

Some of the OT cast may have appeared in cameo roles. Luke might have had an Obi-Wan-like role. The droids, if I recall, were to appear in all of the episodes (being the only consistent characters).

This is all from around 1979, during the making of ESB. That film was so stressful (in addition to the other problems in Lucas's life) that he decided to wrap up the saga as much as was possible with SW3. This involved making Leia the Other.

For many years afterward he would make comments about the ST, and alternated between saying he had plans for it and downplaying its very existence. In these intervening years he would sometimes talk about it as a reunion of the OT characters (obviously a change from the 1979 story). It was only during the time of the prequels that he consistently started saying he wasn't going to make the sequels.

If George were to go back and decide to make a sequel trilogy now, who knows what it would include. I'd imagine it would follow whatever notes he had from way back when, along with some new ideas and probably a few EU references (in a similar "use-what-he-likes" way as the prequels and the Clone Wars show).
