Carrie Fisher has become an absolute train wreck and has metamorphicised so drastically over 30 years in physicality and demeanor, that I can't imagine having another age appropriate actress essaying the role of Leia would be anywhere near as jarring as watching Fisher herself lumbering through the role, with her longshoreman body language, smoker's rasp and "the lights are on but nobody's home" vacant stare. I caught her appearance on the Late Show with Craig Ferguson a few weeks ago, and it was painful to watch, like watching a mental patient in televised therapy. She's become this strange amalgam of Bea Arthur, Harvey Fierstein and Norma Desmond from "Sunset Boulevard". Unless the character is written as crazy old coot Leia, who lives alone with 26 cats(or the SW universe equivalent), it would take a miracle to make her appearance anything but cringe-worthy.

II know it sounds like heresy, but if a more graceful yet mature actress such as Margaret Colin, Anne Archer, Wendy Crewson or Sela Ward(all of whom have played Harrison Ford's wife in the past, coincidentally) were to show up in the role, I have the feeling most people wouldn't give Fisher a second thought after a moment or two.

Mav Edit: We've had several threads about the appearance of the Big 3 and if they should or should not appear. Please comment in one of those threads.

If it's not Fisher, I'd rather not have the character in the film at all.

Well, I dont know what issues you have with her but you sound crazy. Even your username is creepy stalker like! If I were you, I would look into some help. Or outside even. Yes, "we're gonna need a bigger slave outfit" but hell... I mean...

    Alright carry on

Was another one of these threads really necessary? Who cares what Carrie looks, sounds, or acts like? I think her life experiences will give even more gravitas to her role as Leia. These characters can't stay in some magical bubble where they all stay exactly the same as we knew them. They grow old, they experience tragedies, they live their lives off-screen and there is no telling the tolls they've been through. I suggest the OP read Carrie Fisher's open letter to Leia (if they haven't already), give it a rest and let the characters be what they are going to be. Don't go in with preconceived notions of what the characters should be because life changes people and that's not a bad thing.

This is why make-up artists earn so much money in the business. No Carrie Fisher? No Leia. Same way if someone replaced Natalie Portman as Padme for AOTC.

    People age. Get over it.

Who was it who so famously said, "I foresee a thread lockdown in the near future"?

Was it Gerald Ford? Well, maybe it wasn't, maybe it was Louis Armstrong, or maybe Neil, or Lance? Or maybe David Bowie?

What's wrong with Carrie's demeanor? Carrie's demeanor is awesome, wicked, observant, and disarming.

SOLD! I'm so down with Leia as the quirky, old giver of knowledge to the hero.
