if quin was on tatooine why didnt he help qui gon?

when sebulba is talking to jar jar quinlan vos is in the background watching.if he was watching he obviously saw qui gon jiin.why didnt he help qui gon or talk to him?

 

Because Goerge Lucas doesn't know that a random extra is actually a Jedi.

Yes..which makes it even more nonsensical that he'd be on Tattooine to help Qui-Gon.

You know how Anakin says "People never help eachother?"

The EU guys based the character of Quinlan Vos on that *Random* character of no importance. He was not Quinlan.


Next question: Why wan't Admiral Ackbar on Yavin?

 

Either two things happened.
1. Qui-Gon walks past while Quin is doing his laces. He leans back up.
Quin: Did I miss much?
Man: Nah.
[As Qui-Gon walks back]
Quin: What do ya know, me laces are undone again.
[Quin does them as Qui-Gon leaves]

2. As Quin watches on.
Man: Hey Quin, isn't that a Jedi? Why don't you help him?
Quin: I'm having a vacation alright!!!!

Or Quin hasn't met Qui-Gon and there's no evidence Qui-Gon's a jedi as he is covering his robes.

 

Next question: Why wan't Admiral Ackbar on Yavin?

No that pertains to ANH and as such is off topic in TPM.

 

Qui-Gon was in disguise, and I'm sure that not all Jedi would recognize one another when in a situation such as that.

It's because he was on an undercover mission and didn't know that Qui-Gon was in trouble. If he knew that they needed help, he would have contacted the Jedi and gotten them a ride off.
That does raise the question on what would have happened if Quin ran into Maul, or if any of the probe droids could identify him as a Jedi.

 

What I want to know is, how did the EU explain this character in the book "he was the guy who was in the background during that scene with Qui and Watto in Episode I"

 

I don't remember A story that actually shows Quin on Tattooine. My first experience with the character was in his introductory comic, which has very little to do with TPM.

 

Actually the reason the EU used that character as a Jedi is that he is actually wearing a lightsaber in the movie ((hard to see, but use freezeframe. If you still can't see it, go through the deleted scenes in the dvd.))

Plus I think that his clothing was reminiscient of Jedi robes, though of a different style. Might be wrong though.

And YES! I have always wondered how cool it would have been for Maul to duel with him. Imagine Maul speeding back to the Infiltrator on that ridiculous scooter of his, after having dueled with Qui-Gon, intent on pursuing them on his ship in order to try to get them before they reached hyperspace.

When he gets there, he find quin waiting for him near his ship, all hooded up and mysterious. Then;

1) They either have a spectacular duel
2) The scene fades out((would have pissed off everyone!))...and the next time we see maul is when the hanger doors on Naboo open!


Oh and as for not helping out, the EU gives an explanation that Quin actually had just recovered from amnesia. Or that perhaps he had amnesia at that point... not sure. I'm not big on EU.

Or you could go with that he did not recogoniz Qui Gon, or realized quigon was undercover. And the normally perceptive Qui on did not see him.

((The real reason ofcourse, as some one mentioned above, is that Lucas apparently did not realize they stuck a jedi in the background. ))

I agree he should have helped Qui-Gon out but he didn't.

 

Amnesia... I was gonna suggest that he is a bipolar Jedi/Sith, and has a double-bladed lightsaber that is half green and half red. At Christmastime, he just lights it up and hangs it in front of his house.

What!?!?!?!?! He was in the Phantom Menace i did not know that, what is the scene number? Is there any other characters in there that i dont know about?

 

Does anyone have a picture of him with the lightsaber. I thought I heard it confirmed (going to look for a quote) that it was not Quin.

It would be hard to imagine seeing QuiGon walk by and not atleast say hello if indeed it were another Jedi sitting there.
