i was just thinking about it, and what if Vader or sids had known about Orbalisk armor at the time of Vader's injuries? If they had attached one of those little symbiotes to him, it most certainly would have healed all wounds except for the missing limbs, and he wouldn't have required the life support system, just the cybernetics. Plus, he would have the physical/force based advantages of the orbalisks. He was already strong being mostly cybernetic, but he he had them pumping adrenaline into his system, i daresay he'd be much stronger. Plus if he had mastered them, he could have possibly been able to have spikes in his hold of the force, just as Darth Bane did. He wouldn't be perfect of course, but i could see him being better off than he was, wheezing and whatnot. not to mention wherever the orbalisks were, he'd be immune to lightsaber blows.

I think the major difference being here is, Darth Bane didn't have 3 of his limbs chopped off and have burns over 97% of his body..

That and Bane didn't have his lungs irrepairably scarred by the hot Mustafar lava fumes.

I doubt Sidious would have wanted Vader to be encased in orbalisk armor, even to save him. Even if they did help heal him, it would have made Vader much too powerful to control properly. But, the person the orbalisks attached to needed to be physically strong enough to handle the negative properties too. Even though he survived well enough being transformed into half a cyborg, I would imagine the orbalisks would have been a totally jarring experience.

idk i remember in in ROT how Bane slammed into three fll grown Drexels and flew to the ground in what was desccrbed as a bloody pulpy mass, and he walked out of that with only two on his body...i think it woulda heealed him, and i doubt the orbalisks would be worse than the mstafar flames.Sidious may not have wanted him to have it, as indeed he would have been strong.

But Sidious wanted a stronger apprentice, hence trying to get Luke as a replacement, if he wanted a strong apprentice but not strong enough to overthrow him then in ROTJ Vader is the perfect apprentice. There's also his Lord Vader will become stronger than either of us, and the fact that he was so determined to get the one jedi who had the potential to definitely become stronger than him as his apprentice.
I don't buy this Sidious wanted an apprentice than him point of view.

Yes, since these are a creation of the EU, there is really nothing for them to "know about". :p

If Vader had known about orbalisks

He would have gone around with a coral formation on his head and a purple lightsaber at his side.

Oh, wait. Bane's purple saber isn't "canon", so it doesn't count.

he would've been an interesting force to watch...i'd like to see someone rather than DB to use them they're too beneficial to a sith...but that's not really for this category.

I guess the next question would be: Would Vader be strong enough Physically and Mentally to be able to control them?

well if little ani lives up to his name at all....i'd say he'd be able to deal with atleast the physical stress, although i could see him getting angry from the enzymes the orbalisks are shooting into his system, but i think overall he could deal with it. in his black suit, it injects chemicals into his blood stream to make him stronger, so he should be able to handle them.

There's a link to orbalisks like three posts up, and i didn't know where else to put it really, but i'm pretty new to the JCF. but a orbalisk in a nut shell is a shell like creature that dwells in caves on Dxunn, they feed off the power of the dark side, but in return give the host that they attach themselves to greatly enhanced strength and reflexes, and they also have MAJOR healing properties. Oh, and the only thing known that can destroy them is force lightning.

Hopefully the title change will keep things on-topic now.
Technically, we could redirect this to the Literature forum, but they don't allow What If threads. We do, and as long as people at least try to discuss this in light of the movies, we'll all be fine.

Sidious wanted the apprentice that was strong enough to wipe out the Jedi with him. He wanted the apprentice strong enough to keep around. Vader could have taken Palpatine; he was placed in the suit which worked out all the more for Palpatine in terms of keeping him in control. I think that Palpatine wanted to keep the Sith alive but he was so out of control and out of his mind that he had plans set in motion to remain alive forever. He had his clones on standy and he had multiple weapons of galactic destruction at his dispense. I think he wanted Luke to replace Vader and keep that strong right-hand of his while still staying on top.
