Moonlight is reflected sunlight, not direct sunlight. Duh.

    Amazing.

While that is scientifically obvious, I really never thought of it... so yeah... why doesn't 'moonlight' kill Vampires then!

But in movies they've killed Vamires using sunlight reflected off of mirrors, so reflected sunlight CAN kill them... :p Pffffffffffffffffttttt!!!!

Because there is a major difference between relected sunlight off a mirror and off the moon in that a mirror will reflect all wavelengths of light, including UV light, while the moon absorbs a large part of the light spectrum and just reflects the visible reflection. Thus with the UV light being absorbed and not reflected a vampire can go out in the daytime.

And as a real world analogy, considering getting sunburnt from UV light. If you spend the day outside on general land (ie with soil and rock as the terrain), you get burnt only on those parts of your body that are in direct sunlight. But if you go out onto the water or snowfields, the UV light is reflected by the water particles and thus you get burnt in places like under the arms, under the jaw.

    Dude... You're way too serious.

You're not one of those that goes to conventions and asks the Master Replica vendors what sort of crystals they use in their sabers and all, right? Because if so, what were you doing in Texas about 3 or 4 years back? :p

Never been to a convention in my life. Besides which, I can differentiate real life from a hypothetical situation. :p

Everything typed was thought up about 20 seconds before typing the post, just a judicious application of logic. Plus I'm a science nerd. :-B

farrie, what if they are unchaste virgins? ;)

Or better yet, who says that the first time has to be with another unicorn? Cross-breeding sometimes strengthens bloodlines.

In Robin McKinley?s Sunshine, vampires are affected by sunlight reflecting off the moon. When a person first becomes a vampire, as long as they aren?t in direct sunlight, they?re in no immediate danger of being destroyed. As they age and commit more and more evil acts, they become restricted entirely to the night. After a few more decades, the reflected sunlight of the moon starts to become a problem, and they can only go out on cloudy or moonless nights. Eventually, even starlight becomes an issue for them, and they?re forced to live entirely away from light. Even the little bit of starlight coming through clouds is too much. Mind you, it takes a long and evil unlife to get that far.

By the by, I loved Sunshine. It?s my favorite vampire book out there.
