If you could live in any U.S. city named after a Greek city-state, which would it be?

I'd choose either Syracuse, Kansas or Athens, Maine.

Technically, Troy wasn't in Greece, but Asia Minor (modern day Turkey, unless I'm mistaken).

And of course, I'd live in any city called Sparta.

Athens, Georgia too because I'm already here in Georgia.

Syracuse is on Sicily, but it was still a Greek city-state. Troy was one of many Greek settlements on Western Anatolia. Thanks to Alexander (though this was long after the Trojan War), Greeks could be found as far east as Afghanistan and India. They could also be found as far west as Spain. Istanbul, the largest city in Turkey, was at one point a major Greek (and later Roman) city. It's a mistake to characterize ancient Greek civilization as existing only within the borders of modern Greece.

So back to my (intentionally) very stupid thread topic.

    Troy at Wiki

I'm inclined to believe that Homer's Troy and its war is indeed pure legend rather than an narrative based on any actual event. And I had always been under the impression -- a far as the narrative goes -- that it stood as a nation apart from the Helenistic Acheans. Therefore, technically, it's not exactly part of Ancient Greece, though its place in anciente Greek culture and Western Civilization is undeniable...plus it made for awesome stories.

I've lived in Troy twice. It's not bad, except for the traffic. And the stupid city motto: "The city of tomorrow--today!!"

What the hell does that even mean.

I think it means they realized they misspoke, and are correcting themselves.

My Troy is the home of Uncle Sam.

Not the best city but its not bad. It does have Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute,

Oh and there is a Greece, NY. One day I hope the national guard branch of Greece, NY rolls a giant wooden horse over the Green island bridge and leaves it outside the city limits.

Kinda what the chasers did to the Turkish Embassy.
