I didn't think it was possible but I have found a voice more annoying than Ahmed Best playing Jar Jar... And that voice is whoever substituted for him in Episode 12. Just when I was beginning to like Jar Jar too, he somehow became more annoying.

It wasn't very good voice acting, was it? [face_laugh]

I didn't mind the voice at all, but I really prefer Ahmed Best over BJ Hughes (who plays Jar Jar in "The Gungan General") playing Jar Jar any day.

It was very much deeper than what Ahmed does, yeah. I'm more used to what he does with Jar Jar, but this was alright. Certainly seemed to fit the 'stereotypical Caribbean slave' accent more, if you ask me. XD

Hope Ahmed is available for most of the Jar Jar episodes. Then again, looks like he won't be around for a long while.

Not a big fan of the new voicework for Jar Jar. I thought it was pretty bad.

I will say that overall, I think the voices have been excellent so far.

Didn't like it either, it wasn't bad, just not Jar Jar. Jar Jar is so tied to Ahmed it sounds weird when someone else does it.

But I agree, the voice doubling (is that a word?) in general are brilliant. The guy that does Dooku is spot on. Anakin is good as well, at least when comparing to the Gennedy Anakin, Obi is a bit over the top but good nonetheless. Palpatine never turns out sounding like Ian though, he sounded weird in TFU too.

I also like the original voices, Fisto's Caribbean accent suited him (stereotypical as it may be) and Koon's voice makes him seem calm and respected.

It was so jarring because Ahmed Best is Jar Jar. It's a very specific voice, too. And what's even weirder is that he did the voice for him a few weeks ago. His Jar Jar has a certain innocence to him, compared to this past week's. It's like the one or two times that Athony Daniels didn't provide the voice for C-3P0.

Does anybody know if Best did the voice for the Gungan who exclaims "Wesa free!" in the ROTJ SE DVD?

My little 'un loves Jar Jar, so even though I knew it wasn't Ahmed's voice this week, I didn't expect her to notice...but she did, she kept saying "Jar Jar sounds wrong" "Whats up with Jar Jar". The guy did a decent job to be honest..Vader apart, he's got to be one of the harder SW characters to imitate dead on.

My 8-year old pegged it as sounding different as well.

We should award Ahmed Best the ultimate vindication by starting a petition to have him re-voice Jar Jar for the DVD. Wonder why he didn't do it to begin with? I mean, he did Robot Chicken and the Colbert Report...

Why didn't he give the voice though? Was he doing something else at the time? He already did Bombad Jedi, so I'm not sure why they couldn't get him.

Maybe he did something to anger TPTB and he's been permanently fired.[face_worried]

    Has that EVER happened? o_O

And Since there were 15 episodes in between this and "Bombad" I guess it's plausible he was entangled with other things.

The "Rebel Mission to Ord Mantell" LP. Scary stuff. Having just been to Disneyland, I'm not quite sure about the intro spiel to the Jedi Training Academy either, although if it's not Anthony, it's pretty good.

Also he hasn't voiced C-3PO in any game, Tom Kane did the games and he also didn't voice 3PO in the Dark Empire audio dramas, Jim Ward did. Both are decent but you just can't compare with Anthony.

That's the one I was specifically thinking of. Maybe they could retcon that as him having a new voice box, though. lol

The voice was so bad that I would have to say unless Ahmed available then rewrite his role using C3-P0 or Ahsoka, it was severly jarring.

Retconning the Jedi Training Academy attraction would be a *major* undertaking! But the kids do love it so...
