Hey, I know that Indy 4 is a little far away, but it never hurts to get a head start. Does anyone have any tips, patterns, etc. for Indiana's costume or Willie's in Temple of Doom?

    thanks!

    ooo i like
    more pictures:
(a little tattered but i think it is still the dress)-picture 1
    (action figure)- action figure

well you could try Simplicity 9891 for the skirt and bodice. the action figure shows that it has a low V-shapped neckline. this type of neckline is relitively easy to do and shouldn't require an additional pattern. as for the sleeves, the sleeve flounces in 9891, if you lengthen and widen them, could work. dress looks like it has a lace overlain on it. you could probably make the sleeves and the overlain our of the same material. as for stitching the overlain and the underdress together, i think they used bag lining. i would suggest using that on the top, but not for the skirt. the overlain should be slightly shorter than the underskirt. it is difficult to make lace lie flat when it has been lined with another layer of lace, so for the sleeves, i would use just two pieces of lace sewn at the top and them to the arm hole. for the trim i would use some thing thing and gold. and for the pendant on her chest (unless i am mistakened and that is a huge hunk o' dirt) i couldn't even begin to tell you what to use. i hope this helped somewhat!

There was a great issue of STAR WARS INSIDER in 2001 (I forget the number at the moment), a double-issue with half on ATTACK OF THE CLONES and half on Indiana Jones, mostly RAIDERS since it was the 20th anniversary. It contained a breakdown of Indy's entire costume, telling you what was used. The jacket and hat, can still be purchased from the very same people who made them for the film. They even tell you where to find the shoes, from a place in San Francisco.

    Go to WWW.WESTED.COM

They used to be film only - They never used to sell to the public so they're pretty special

Hat - Available from the Herbet Johnson Hat Shop in London, England.

Shirt - Reproductions made by Noel Howard of M.B.A. Costumes in London.

Belt - Also available from M.B.A.

Whip - Designed for the film and still sold by David Morgan of Bothell, Washington.

Pants - No real "movie reproductions" as far as I can tell, but they were not uncommon in the military and called "officer's pinks" because of their color (a mixture of gray, khaki, and a hint of red).

Jacket - Made to order based on the original designs by Peter Botwright of Wested Leather Company (mentioned in the post above).

Bag - WWII MkVII British gas mask bag. Sentimental Journey, a military surplus store in England, deals with them, but they have the original strap (the strap was replaced by a leather strap with a metal buckle for the film).

Gun and Holster - A modified Smith & Wesson Hand Ejector, 2nd Model (the civilian version of the Army's M1917). The holster in RAIDERS was custome-made, but WWII holsters were used in TEMPLE OF DOOM and THE LAST CRUSADE.

Shoes - Made by Alden Shoe Company of Massachusetts, they are still available through the Alden Shop in San Francisco, California. They have five eyelets and four hooks with a 6" top; orthopedic style #405.

This was all in Issue #54 of STAR WARS INSIDER.

Hey, MN Jones here from the MN Fan force. Yup, www.indygear.com is your one stop shop for Indy Gear and Clothing. Actually, we don't sell or make anything, but link you to all the vendors that do. Some original vendors, others very good repros. Also a great message board is attached called Club Obi Wan, where we talk gear all day long.

As for Willie "gear" - not much out there. The dress from the dance number would be hard to copy. Otherwise, her main clothing was Indy's tux (tuxedo pants, shirt, and dinner jacket).

A great place to find the Marion White dress is The Magic Wardrobe
    www.the-magic-wardrobe.com/index.html
It's not cheap thou.... $500 - we just ordered this for my wife and should get it shortly. If anyone has other questions, don't be afraid to PM me! TTFN!

For the bag, try Jerry Lee at whatpriceglory.com

Look in the British gear section.

Indy also carried a .455 (but probably converted over to .45 ACP )Webley MkVI revolver. A reproduction holster is available at IMA-USA.com, or pop up on eBay, along with everything else.

BriaTharen - I don't know what patterns are out there for shirts or pants, but the shirt is basically a safari style shirt with a full length pleat running from the epaulet down thru the pockets to the bottom of the shirt. They are only on the front of the shirt. The pants are basically Wool Dress Pants, or military pinks. If you don't want the Noel Howard originals (prices are a little steep) - LLBean makes some good alternatives in the $50 price range. And Cabela's makes a great "Indy" shirt (minus the full length pleat - an Indy Exclusive) for about $26. Let me know and I can get you some links if you want. Otherwise, most of this info is on Indygear.com.

Jerry's MK VII gas mask bag (Indy bag) is a repro and a VERY good one at that. You may want to change out the strap however, it's on the thick side. Original MK VII's are getting harder and harder to find, and therefore spendier and spendier. The repro is a great bag at a great price if you're not worried about "originality."

Magic Wardrobe is a little on the pricey side, but you get a quality product done by professionals. The Marion Dress is the only one we've purchased from them (currently shipping as we speak - or type) - but the one person that has one (I know her) loves it to death. When you think materials, time and effort, research, etc, you can see where the pricetag comes from. They are not assembly line products, but each one is done by hand, one at a time. But yeah, it is a lot of money.

No, I totally understand about the cost of research, materials, time, etc. But Leia's ANH dress is really quite a simple one-- I can't imagine it taking that long to make, and compared to their other $400 dresses, it just seems like an awful lot of money, for not so much dress.

If you're just looking for a basic khaki shirt, take a look at Sportsman's Guide:

    http://www.sportsmansguide.com/index.html?tp=showad.html%3Fad_id%3D38176

3 French Foreign Legion shirts for $15.

Also, poke around Jerry Lee's site in the GI uniform area. Should find the officer's "pinks" in there.
