I played the first and Miles Morales in late 2021/early 2022 when I first got my PS5. Masterful storytelling and gameplay. Really looking forward to this!

 

I try not to put a lot of stock in review "scores". They're an easy barometer of whether the reviewer liked the game if you're not inclined to read the full text but it massively misses the nuance that the review gives in the text. That being said, the amount of 5/5 and 9/10's out there is promising but even more telling is the fact that the reviews are out 5 days before release.

No hold back review embargos until the day before or even day of release, no snide regional ban on even getting an early copy of the game (looking at you Bethesda). Insomniac are clearly upbeat about the game and believe they have a cracker and aren't hiding anything away letting reviewers get in early.

They have a solid track record with SM1 and MM and initial reviews suggest they've built on that and improved things (Batman Arkham fighting style aside)

 

I'm sure we'll get elaboration on where Venom is from, last seen in Insomniac Spider-Man and Miles Morales wrapped around Harry Osborn. In Ultimate comics it was a suit/cure for cancer so probably something like that. Could still be from space, though

Head canon: whenever Spider-Man stashes something in his suit he's using Hammerspace tech he got from Miguel and Spider-Society in Across the Spider-Verse

 

Played both Spidey and MM at launch .two of the best games of PS4 Gen easily.

I have preordered and taken this Friday off to enjoy 2

 

Saw the Digital Foundry video and it looks like a huge step up and a huge distinction how great this console gen could be.

It's gonna have to work real hard to beat Miles Morales in my mind, but I'm totally prepared for it to do just that.

Haven't felt this hyped for a new game in a long, long time!

 

OK, Like the look of the fast travel BUT I rarely used it in the last game as I loved webslinging

There's actually a trophy in the first game for using the fast travel system 5 times, which I didn't know until I stumbled across it online. I still had to use it 3 more times. That's how rarely I used it.

Unlike Jedi Survivor where you needed the fast travel instead of lugging across the map, swinging is essential in Spider-Man

Some of the suits seem a little bit much though here, I'll rock classic duds most of the time

 

Interview with Spider-Man Yuri Lowenthal. Interesting note that both him and Miles Morales actor have to record dialogue that is "regular" and "exertion" (for swinging). Like playing the games if Spider-Man is on a call and you start swinging he'll sound different. So for this one Yuri had to also record "symbiote takes"

Earlier Spider-Man games with the Symbiote had their versions of Peter change his voice, and Spider-Man 2 required the same of Lowenthal. The first game notably saw him change his voice depending on whether or not Peter was exerting himself by swinging around the city. (Ditto for Nadji Jeter when he headlined 2020’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.) That method has returned for this game, but there were other variables to consider, such as the wingsuits that allow Peter and Miles to fly around New York.
Lowenthal also confirmed he had to do “Symbiote takes” for Peter’s lines after acquiring the suit. Further complicating matters was that lines were recorded out of order, which made charting the Symbiote’s hold on Peter important. “We were always on top of, ‘How far is he in his Symbiote journey?’” the actor recalled. “‘Has he just gotten it, or is it much later when the suit’s starting to fully take over?’” For those line reads, he added, he was really pushed by voice director Kris Zimmerman to either dial back or amp up the Symbiote influence. And like playing a meaner Peter in general, it was a little tough for him to fully get in that mindset.

The hype has come very quickly for this one, wasn't even that much on my radar at the beginning of the month but now I'm dying to play it lol

EDIT: Deluxe edition only available through the Digital version, for those getting physical do we know what the upcharge will be to get all the suits?

 

No pricing yet, but it's likely gonna be the difference between the two versions, so I'd say in the region of ten bucks, maybe fifteen.

 

Ten is fine, that's just the price of the deluxe. $15 I'd probably do but wouldn't like doing. $20 is out of the question and I'd then rather do the digital version.....gah!

 

So has mine, should be with me tomorrow on that basis

 

I have to drive and pick mine up, I put down half on the preorder so it feels like I'm spending less when I pick it up. Installment plan!
