Intercom Systems in Houses

So... does anyone else have one of these? I'm not the only yuppie, am I?

What does everyone think of them?

My parents' house has one. It's really nice too.

 

Er, no. There's no intercom system(s) in my house. Although I have heard of people putting them in a nursery to monitor their baby from another room.

If I did, I'd be using them all the time giving orders to bring food to "the bridge" and act all Trek geeky.

 

I can yell the length and height (or perpendicular if you like) of my house with ease. Who needs gadgets?

I always wanted intercoms so I could harass everyone else in my house. I'm pretty sure that's why my parents would never get them.

Well it's nice to just be able to call the house cleaner you know... Lol, no, we don't have a house cleaner... anymore

We have one but never use it because it didn't work for very long.

The worst thing about ours is that you can turn the radio on and it plays through the WHOLE house... my parents do that sometimes, and it's annoying... so I turn it down. THEN, they try to call me on it, and get mad because I don't answer

When I lived in New Jersey we had one, but I was five so I was too short to push the button.

 

We don't have an intercom in the house (which would be pretty cool), but we do have 2 phone lines. So if my parents need me, they just call my line and nag me that way.

 

The house I lived in from age 11-19 had an intercom system. It was relatively spacious, bu we still rarely bothered with it. Ours had the radio thing as well, luckily no one used that either.

 

Yeah I've got one in my home. It was there when we moved in. Sadly it's the same as Solojones', being that my dad can play his crappy radio station through the entire house, only that when you turn it down you can still hear it a little. So when I try to go to bed and he's left the radio on, I can just hear it and it drives me nuts.

Besides this the only practical use that it serves is to confirm who is outside the front gates and wants to come in. Although sometimes I abuse this function when I'm drunk to freak out passer bys, by looking at the road from upstairs, waiting for someone to pass and then proceed to blast them with drunken gobbledy gook speak.

 

I don't have intercoms either, but cell phones work just as well. My sister and I call our phones our 'tracking devices' as our parents call us on them all the time to keep tabs on our whereabouts.

 

Nope. We just yell. A lot.
