Very interesting interview with Dan Mindel, DoP for TFA. Along with the story of the film, one of the things that interests me most is the look of the film. I've been rather impressed by J.J. Abrams lofty goal of channeling the likes of John Ford, Akira Kurosawa and Terrence Malick. Not mimicking them per se, but the idea of nicking little things from each of them to create a Star Wars stew, I suppose.

Equally fascinating are the photo-graphical choices made by Dan Mindel. That scene in the Japanese trailer of the Tie-Fighters coming in low with the sun a giant burnt orange and yellow in the back ground, gently tipping the cap to Vittorio Storaro's work in "Apocalypse Now" with the helicopter attack on the village.

Star Wars hasn't been what I would personally consider "high art" for awhile, it's kind of nice to see it taken so seriously.
