Strike me down with all of your hatred if this has been discussed. I have viewed the DVDs speacials and what not and havnt came up with an answer to this question. Is it written anywhere that Geoerge or Rick have said that the lines Anakin displays in the fireplace scene are a poem?

The words and the way they are spoken do not land naturally far as conversation goes. It is mildly melodic with a rythm, and it rhymes. I get the feeling that this was to be displayed as a knight in a fairytale calling up to his princess. Rapunsel style. Read the following or hit scene select number 23. You will find the title of the chapter surley the name of the following poem....

"From the moment i met you,
    All those years ago.
Not a day has gone by when I haven't thought of you.

And now that IM with you again, IM in agony.
The closer I get to you, the worse it gets.

The thought of not being with you, I cant breath.
IM haunted by the kiss that you should never have given me. My heart is beating, hoping that that kiss will not become a scar. You are in my very soul, tormenting me. (I think it ends here.)

What can I do? I will do anything that you ask.

If you are suffering as much as I am please tell me (Awkward laughter in the theatre. Not sure if it was intentionally funny.) ."

A poem by Anakin Skywalker. At first i thought it was Haydens, uh, special style of acting but later noticed what must be intent. Discuss at will.

Very interesting idea. Anakin reciting a poem?

Those lines certainly have a poetic "feel" to them and he did deliver them in a very emotional, vulnerable way...revealing his soul. It's the closest thing to a poem in the Star Wars films, now that I think of it.

    BTW,
I never heard any laughter in the theatre during this scene, and I saw the film many times.

"When I first new your father he was the suckiest poet in the galaxy, I was amazed at just how strongly the poetry sucked within him."
    - Obi Wan Kenobi (2007 Ultimate Editions)

I think the audience, myself and Padme herself would have prefered it if Anakin had marched into her chamber of forbidden romance and just vomited all over her dress.
Instead, all we get is one excruciatingly unromantic teenage dry heave.

Well actually the laghter may have been a personal experience. I saw the movie five times. Once at PIXAR(DIGITAL) once at JackLondon cenima and three times at GrandLake theatres. At grandlake there was always the young group who squirmed during this scene and then theyd bust up when Ani says "If you are suffering as much as i am please tell me." I believe it to be a matter of discomfort and it results in laghter. Its like there being told they like some girl and thier at the age where there not supposed to but now realizing that they do. And they feel funny.

Speaking of funny. Take a gawk at that post above me. Im still chuckling.

If that was poetry, that would make Padme the biggest fool in AotC.

It could lead to the forshaddowing of Palaptine in RotJ.

Palpatine: "Only now, when it is too late do you realize the power of bad poetry."

-"Obi-Wan never told you about my poetry."

-"He told me enough. He told you sucked at it."

-"No, I was awesome at poetry. In fact, good enough to get in your mom's pants."

    -"Nooooooooooo!"

It certainly sounded like a poem, probably one he was spending hours thinking up himself while he was resting on his own.

The dialogue in the entire lovestory is very poetic. Courtly love tends to sound that way.

Have a look at this essay:

I don't think he's reciting an actual poem, like one from a book or something, but I have always thought that he was trying to sound poetic. You can tell that he had the first part all planned in his head. That's also why, when Padme refuses, he starts stuttering and sounding pretty stupid. I don't think Lucas thought "I wish I could just wish my feelings away" was a beautiful line. From the way it's performed, it's obvious that he's having trouble expressing himself, while still trying to sound romantic in front of Padme.

    try 10 frikkin years

i agree with Cometgreen, it's like giving a presentation. As soon as the crowd reacts in a way you hadn't expected them too you start improvising, some people are good at it - some people aren't

the people who are good at it get all the chicks

the people that suck turn into Darth Vader and kill all the people that are good at it
