Is crab considered meat?

Well, it's Lent, and I may be eating at a Chinese restaurant today.

some consider fish to not be meat, well what about crab? Is crab meat really meat?

 

No, it's a plant.

 

I'm pretty sure you can eat seafood during Lent, including crab.

In fact, the White Castle by my dorm was advertising fish/crab sandwiches on its marquee as being eligible Lent food.

 

Crab is seafood. It's fine.

 

Animal, vegetable, or mineral? Since Roper already said plant, I'm gonna say it's a species of rock.

 

I'm a vegetarian, so I can eat crab.

 

It's available in salad bars everywhere.

 

Usually it's imitation crab, anyway.

 

I never understood that. Just because it comes out of the water doesn't mean it's not meat. If it's not meat then what is it?

Its because fish aren't cute and cuddly, like cows and pigs.

 

I had Crab once. It was very bland.

 

Aren't you supposed to put butter or something on it?

 

No idea. I like butter on Salmon, though.

 

DarthButt: I always wondered the same thing. I think seafood is more of a meat than a hot dog or sausage.

 

It's seafood. Some people consider it meat, and some don't. I think it counts, as it's animal flesh.

 

Seperated butter for crab. And lobster. Just to counter any healthy attribures of the shellfish.

 

Is crab an animal? Yes. It is therefore meat.

I hate it when people ask if I eat seafood when they find out I'm vegetarian.


But this is a Lent question, so I really don't know the Catholic rules.

 

Hot dogs shouldn't even really be considered food.

Catholic rules make no sence to me whatsoever anyway. That's why I'm not catholic

 

If you're vegetarian you wouldn't eat fish or seafood, and that includes crab.

Yup. It's a commen misconception. There is a term for people who eat just fish and dairy, it's pescitarian, but not many people know what it means.

QFT, I hate hot dogs! But I think crab is considered meat, just because it's seafood, doesn't mean it can't be designated as meat, like someone said, it comes from an animal..
