So far i read Shadow of the empire , Thrawn trilogies , courtship of princess leia and now im reading Tatoine Ghost. Shadow of the empire and the thrawn were fun to read but now its kind of getting boring , same story with han , leia and Luke. When will they have kids , and start a new jedi order and all that? i already bought The Jedi Academy Trilogy to continu after Tatoine ghost.

Han and Leia have kids in the Thrawn Trilogy...

You seem like the type who'd like the New Jedi Order series, but I suggest reading a bit more first.

well,i hated "courtship." i distinctly remember attempting to burn it after i read it, it was so horrendous. if you are going to be reading EU books, choose wisely.

i recommend the shadows of the empire novels (wasnt that the thrawn trilogy???) and then "vision of the future" and the book preceding it are also excellent. look at tf.n and read their reviews before reading any more novels.

and after you get all the background info, the new jedi order is the series for you. skip all the other crap.

I'm not that familar with the bantum era, but i would recomend skiping to the thrawn duology and survivor's quest. Then jumping into the new jedi order. The NJO has it's flaws, but it's what got me into the Eu, and i really enjoyed it. It's a bit different then your previous star wars stories. The first novel in the series is called vector prime. I would also recomend that you read rogue planet before you get to far into the series.

They have kids in the Thrawn tilogy...but they don't do much until later b/c they are young. The X-wing series is good b/c it isn't always the same old plot lines (ie the Empire causes trouble, the Big three save the day, the end) and the NJO is a lot darker.

Yeah, I still see from I, Jedi till Visions is a snooze fest. Though some people seem to find cool parts of the books in between, none are extraordinary.

Personally, I hate COPL too, but I've been reading chronologically, so I finished the X-wing series, which ROCKED. And then there's COPL, where Luke can fly, Han Solo is an idiot, and Leia is out of character.

    Starfighters of Adumar

I promise, you will never be bored.

Spectar of the Past and Vision of the Future, which make up the "Hand of Thrawn" duology are the ones you really need to read before reading the New Jedi Order. It is in those two books that:

    *spoilers*

...the Galactic Civil War official ends with the signing of a treaty between the Impirial Remnant and the New Republic. And Luke asks Mara Jade to marry him.

Welcome to Star Wars. The kindergarten starts with Del Reyan books, so enjoy the solid Bantams whole you can.

Courtship and tatooine Ghost are a little slower than the others. Hit up the X-Wing books then Jedi Academy trilogy/I, Jedi and Darksaber for faster paced adventures.

I looked at dark saber and was not impressed. I've heard that the jedi accademy trilogy is good, but i'm having trouble getting myself to read it. From what i saw of dark saber KJA's writing style is pretty bad. Like i think Thrawn McEwok could kick his ass in writing.

Courtship of Princess Leia is actually one of my favorite non-NJO SW novels. CoPL is one of the few novels that I've read multiple times for fun.

I'm going to play devil's advocate here though...the Thrawn Duology, IMHO, was horrible. Other than the fact that the Imperial Remnant and New Republic made peace in these novels, there's nothing particularly redeemable about them.... That's just my two credits.

I've heard that the jedi accademy trilogy is good

Who did you hear this from???

Finally someone who loves COPL. I personally found this book to be my favorite of all the bantam novels I've read so far and yes I HAVE read the thrawn trilogy and liked COPL better...no I'm not on crack.

But so far I recommend the NJO series to, I just finished Vector Prime and it was excellent and it takes sw into a difrerent direction.

CoPL made me wish Star Wars was never made. Han using a mind control gun to force Leia to go with him on a romantic retreat to a planet he won playing a card game, but only after we find out he's a descendant of a Corellian king? What the ****!?

Just skip the Bantam Books til the Thrawn duology, nothing really good not meaningful there...

Well, you can maybe read The New Rebellion which at least is entertaining IMHO.

2 more groups of books you have to read before you get to NJO. X-Wing, which barely even features the big 3, and none of them are in the same scene together. Then read HoT. It does feature the big three, but if you liked The Thrawn Trilogy, you should like this. After that I'd say you're ready to jump into NJO :)

Heh.. the Hand of Thrawn duology wasn't that great to me. but i suppose it ties in a bit more with the NJO than some of the other books. probably what is a more important lead into NJO are the Young Jedi Knights books.. they don't get boring because you'll finish them before getting bored - as kids' books, they are short.

Reading the HOT is fun for laughs. Karrde with his cocked brow, saying everything "dryly". I bet if you took all follwing words out, and one of them isn't a word: "grimace", "dryly", "sarcastically", "redgold", "point" "cocked brow" and "farmboy' out of the books, it could actually be one book.

Heh, heh, heh. Zahn does have a fondness for certain adjectives...

Sadly, you're right. It is boring. I used to think there was variety in the novels. Now I realize that a good majority of them are the same basic plot with different sparklies involved.

So ... you're not that familiar with Bantam's work but you recommend people should skip it anyway? Nicely done. [face_not_talking]

Courtship is a book I really enjoyed.

Tiershon, that actually never bothered me until I noticed your repeated posts concerning it, then started noticing just how prevalent it is in his books. And though I damn myself to heaven, I have to agree. It's absolutely gives books a strict, rigid form of writing that doesn't flow freely. It's a quarter the reason why I loathed Survivor's Quest, and will not buy any forthcoming Zahn books.

Well, actually, his recent titles indicate he's hitting the teen audience now, so that's my cue to TARDIS out, but Outbound and Alliegance are taboo to me. :D
