No, it's not normal. You should use fish oil instead. Or ground beef.

It happens to a lot of people. Eventually, you'll get used to it if you keep on using that brand, or you can just switch to something else.

It's perfectly normal, if your deodorant happens to be hydrochloric acid.

Either you have very sensitive skin, or your deodorant is really high in alcohol (never a smart idea anyway). Do you use a roll-on or a spray? Whichever, maybe switching to the other might help?

Were you shaving your pits before you put on the deodorant?

That should not happen. Unless the deodorant you use is not the right kind for you. I use liqud gel deodorant. It does not burn me at all.

It's normal if you're sensitive to aluminum, which is common. Most deodorants contain aluminum. Try switching to one that doesn't (like "Tom's of Maine") and I bet the problem goes away. Tom's costs a little more, but it won't burn you of give you lymph node cancer, another possible side effect of aluminum in deodorants. Unlikely, but possible.

I stopped using rub-on deodorant because of the burning. I tried the spraying deodorant for a while, but the molecules in the air bothered my nose after spraying. So I haven't used anything in a year or so. I also haven't noticed any difference--other than the fact that my pits aren't burning. Girls still compliment me on my aroma (thanks to my aftershave and cologne).

I notice that deodorant burns me if I've been sweating a lot and my armpits become chafed from rubbing on my shirt. Maybe your armpits are raw. You could be allergic to the deodorant or some of the ingredients too.

I tried to post this earlier this evening, but it was when the boards went wacky again.... I agree, it might be a sensitivity to aluminum....

Degree works well... it's aluminum free, and it's inexpensive.

that happend to me once John. It was the alchahol in the Old Spice I had been using.

Switch to a solid that doesnt contain alchahol, and youll be fine.

The "all-natural" deoderant disgusts me. It smells worse than you probably would going without deoderant.

I'm allergic to some deodorants. You may be as well. What happens, if I use one that will bother me, is that it will burn and my pits will turn very red and itch like the devil for days to follow.

You might want to try a non-scented Antiperspirant/Deodorant too, if sweating a lot is a problem. I use Arrid Total solid.

Generally, chemical names ending with -ol and ethers (if I remember correctly) are alcohols. I want to think the -ide is an acid ending. Been too long and I'm too tired. :p

I've had deodorant burn before, too. Usually it happens with sprays and off and on with roll-ons, but not always. Usually, solids and invisible-solids don't do that to me, though.

Yes, it's perfectly normal for your armpits to burn after you apply deodorant. It's also perfectly normal for your skin to peel off, red bumps to appear, and if bleeding occurs, there's no need to change your deodorant. Word of advice--if it stings, don't fricken use it.

I used to use Classic Oldspice gel, but after I used it for so long I would get very sensitive and iritated armpits.

Now I use Rightguard extreem, it works really good.

    dipropylene glycol- alcohol
    water-well, water!!
    propylene glycol-alcohol
    sodium stearate-fatty material
    fragrance-makes it smell good
PPG-3 myristyl ether- a mild emollient made from Myristic fatty acid, a coconut fatty acid. (had to look that one up :p )
    triclosan-antibiotic
tetrasodium edta-binds the trace minerals in the product
sodium hydroxide- basic chemical. Probably to adjust the pH of the product.
    D&C violet no. 2, D&C green no.6.-coloring

this stuff is probably from the "other" or "inactive" ingredients. Any aluminum would be listed in the "active ingredients".
