In the primary canon, I have yet to see anyone block Force Choke. (Films, TCW) (Haven't seen Rebels season 2)

Force Choke seems to be significantly powerful. For instance, even after losing a duel, Ventress still managed to force choke Obi-Wan and Anakin simultaneously. Savage accomplished the same feat against Dooku and Ventress.

Is it possible to block the attack then? I imagine that that a Jedi could block the attack if he or she were significantly more powerful. For instance, I could not see Sidious or Yoda being force choked by Maul or Ventress. Could they block the attack?

Good question. I don't think so, especially if it's Sidious who's doing the choking.

I think every jedi has a force shield so I would think so. ^ Just dont let it Sidious be the one to try it on you.

I'd assume so, otherwise why not just have every fight be a Force Choke to death?

Irl answer is it would make for boring fights, but surely in universe it can be resisted

Essentially the solution would be a Force shove to break the hold.

don't think it works that way.

I would say it was possible to force choke everyone in the same room as you without lifting a finger, not a case of just getting out the way like force lightning.

I think it may be possible if both are Sensitives as counter action seems hinted in RotS but usually the victim is assumed not to be a Sensitive so they seem helpless.

have we seen it done to a force user in canon. Anakin chokes padme during rots, he does so to a few seps during the clone wars. Does sidious use it against maul and savage at all?vader only uses it on imp offices in the ot and luke uses it to two gamorians at jabbas. I may be incorrect because I cannot remeber all the time anakin used it during the clone wars or if any of the sith used it during those episodes against a Jedi.

For those who think it is impossible to block Force Choke, would you say that Ventress, for instance, could force choke Sidious?

Sidious is so much more powerful that he would have to have a way to block it right?

I don't think so but I guess it depends on how powerful the "chokee" is like enigmaticjedi said.

But this begs the question why some don't just choke everyone.

I am sure that a powerful enough force-user could block a force choke but I am not sure exactly how. Depending on the combatant, it may be blocked unconsciously by a force wall, or consciously through a raise of the hand. I do not think the blocking of a force choke has ever been directly shown or addressed.

I've been wondering the same for quite some time. In the videogame Star Wars: Jedi Knight Jedi Academy, when the rival force chokes you the solution is just to push him away with the Force. I guess that'd be the actual solution if a Force sensitive someone choked another Force sensitive in the series or movies.

Assuming that a force choke is simply willing the Force to contract the opponent's throat muscles and close off their windpipe, I'd imagine a Jedi has just as much ability to possibly influence those parts to expand in counteraction to that...

Kind of like a Force-based arm wrestle, so to speak.

Well - perhaps if one was incredibly Powerful and beyond just skilled and Masterful in The Force ... perhaps Palpatine or who knows an Ancient Sith Lord or Jedi may have developed something for it - or just using incredible Will-Power and greater density over your Force control perhaps? Or even pre-cognition tactics? I mean if you think about it - if Tutaminis is the 'insurance' to a degree against Blaster Bolts and Sith/Force Lightning - although it requires incredible amounts of will and concentration ...

^^ I agree with Darth_Belo. I'm sure it can be done if the force user concentrate on pushing their windpipe and neck out with the force to release it, but I doubt it happens very often. I think the advantage to the force choke is the element of surprise. It's almost always used swiftly and quickly in a duel setting, usually when the Sith is becoming vulnerable and losing footing in the duel.

According to the ROTS video game, you can block it with a lightsaber, but something tells me that just isn't right.

Well, the way I see it, when a Jedi (usually a Dark Jedi) uses Force Choke, he or she uses an invisible "Force arm" to choke the opponent. That Force arm is only as strong as the Jedi's Force capabilities. Thus, if Ventress/Maul tried to Force Choke Sidious, for example, I think he could chop her/his force arm away. If the opponents are around the same league, then it would be just like real life in a way, difficult to break out of a choke hold.

In Dark Empire, a couple of Dark Jedi try to choke Luke and Kam. Luke shows Kam the counter, and they break the hold.

If I remember correctly, in the "Jedi Academy" book "Champions of the Force", the ghost of Exar Kun tries to Force Choke Luke & his students, but Streen counteracted it by using the Force to blow strong air currents into everyone's throats and lungs, loosening the hold.

In Jedi Academy Force Choke can be blocked by Force Push or Force Absorb.

From what I can remember in the Jedi Knight series, you could break a Force Choke by shooting the choker with a blaster or in the later games by Force Pushing them.

So far in the NU, there's no way I know of breaking a Choke.

Well, being choked is pretty distracting, but you're not actually immobilized. Even if you're not Force-sensitive, you could try shooting at the person choking you--all you have to do is break their concentration and they have to let go.
