Is Mara Jade Older or Younger than Luke Skywalker?

Or more specifically, what's her age at the time of the Battle of Yavin?

 

She's 2 years older than Luke, I believe.

 

It really depends on what sourcebook you read, IIRC, . Some say they are the same age, some list one as being a year or two older, some younger. As I recall the TTT sourcebook that zahn had a hand in, IIRC, lists Mara as being the same age as luke.

 

When and where was Mara Jade's age ever stated? I also remember the two year thing for some reason, but I wonder where from.

 

She's both younger and older. It depends on what time system you are using.

 

I think the bigger problem is she doesn't know enough about her past to know how old she is.

 

Timothy Zahn himself said that Mara and Luke were the same age.

Where did you get your information? All I can tell you is that I was present when the question was asked of Timothy Zahn, and I heard him say that they were the same age. (I'm sure give or take a couple of months, not that they shared the same birthday.) So, at least it was the original intent of Mara's creator that they be the same age.

Sounds the like typical, everyday Zahn Retcon. He himself said in an interview a few years back that she's two years older. Now they're same age? Pretty soon, she'll be eight years younger than Luke, and was going to be Palpatine's successor at 7. *rolls eyes*

(Mara? No, it's more like Madonna. She was 27 in 1984, and now, in 2003, she's 39. It's a miracle.)

Besides *heavy sarcasm follows* since Mara was Vader's so-called equal (yeah riiiiiiiiiiight, baby) it makes sense that she's two years older.

He goes around saying things about characters that he has no business saying. Like Luke and Mara were virgins when they got married, because the force told them to "save themselves". Yeah right. He tried to make Vader's mask be fashioned after the Nohgri, but LFL told him not to push it.

I think what Zahn meant was that Luke and Mara are the same age, relative to Like Han and Leia...I remember reading that, and you have to know the context. A two year gap is practically nothing when compared against the Han/Leia age gap.

I have heard Mara being two years older, and this would make some sense, especially when you consider she was already a young girl when taken by the Emperor, instead of an infant. I've also heard same age, but I've seen less support for that.

One thing I know for certain...Luke is not older then Mara.

 

As of Dark Force Rising, Mara Jade is two years younger than Luke Skywalker. As of Balance Point, Mara Jade is two years older than Luke Skywalker.

Her age is increasing at an increasing rate.

They're approximately the same age. Because Mara can't remember her past prior to going with the Emperor, I doubt we'll ever know for sure.

If I had to place her age, I'd say anywhere from a year younger to up to 3 years older.


We'll probably never know, unless her creator decides to write a story of where she was born, etc.

However, regardless of the "fine print" details of how/why, we most definitely know Mara's age in relation to Luke's age at several points in time within the chronology.

 

Hmm! Is it possible that the current Mara is a clone of the actual Mara Let's see - Mara was cloned four years ago, hence the clone's age = Real Mara's actual age + clone Mara's age (4). Which is a possible answer to why Mara's age went from two years younger than Luke to two years older.

The easiest solution to this is that she thought she was younger than she was in Dark Force Rising. Remember that she was taken by the emperor at a young age.

She may have found records between DFR and BP that gave her true birthday and made her discover that she was older that she thought.

Of course, she may have just been lying about her age. I've heard some women are known to do that. (My own grandmother claimed to be 39 until the day she died, even when her daughter turned 40! She was still claiming that at her 50th wedding anniversary!)
