Is Onimi pretending to be a Shamed ONE

I said "Other" because he probably fits the definition of "Shamed One" but likely leads the Yuuzhan Vong...

I also think that he probably technically fits the definition of a shamed one - right now - but somehow he is to be "deshamed". Maybe he is supposed to get some type of Vong surgery to make him "normal" after the war is won as a reward.

 

onimi is probably a shamed one, and possibly shimmra's brother or other relative. just because someone is a shamed one doesn't mean that he can't be smart or crafy or deceptive...

onimi does often pretend to fit the role of a stereotypical shamed one, in order to learn more below the radar stuff for either shimmra's or his own purposes..

 

Onimi hawking new Vong genetic procedures on late-night Vongvision:

I'm not only the leader, I'm also a client."

 

There's a LOT more to Onimi than we've seen-wouldn't it be wild, if he were the real Shimmra-and was switching roles? Think about it...

 

I'm thinking that Onimi and Shimrra are brothers but Onimi was the one to defeat his twin and gain Overlord status. However, because he knew his physical body appeared weak and he wouldn't make a convincing leader, he choose to keep Shimrra alive and make him act as his "body".

 

Oooh, now I can't WAIT for the next books! ARGH!

 

He is really a shamed one. Lokk at his hands. And if he did lead the Yuuzhan Vong, he would be Supreme Overlord Onimi wouldn't he? But he isn't.

Onimi is masquerading as a Shamed One, but he did a decent job of masquerading as a Shaper as well, so he could very easily be neither. Which is why I chose "Other."

The thing is, Shimmra could be the all powerful warlord, or Onimi may be the all powerful one and is using Shimmra as a puppet. Tricky one indeed...

 

Onimi might also be being set up to lead the Shamed One insurrection if he sees the inevitable downfall of the Vong due to the empty last circle.

But do you think, if he was the Overlord, that any Yuuzhan Vong that saw what he looked like would be willing to follow him? He's physically weak and frail. Signs to any YV that he would make a poor leader.

Something else I've wondered for a while is why Onimi was left alive considering the severity of his physical deformities. In Rebirth, Ona Shai had only a slight stoop to her back and was allowed to live. But if deformities are severe, the baby is killed to be "sent back to the gods". I find it really hard to believe that Shimrra just happened to find Onimi (and how would he discover a Shamed One anyway? Certainly not by taking a leisurely stroll through the slave damuteks). There has to be a better explanation - such as they are brothers.

I think the probability of Nom Anor claiming that role is higher actually. He did drop a lot of hints in DW regarding the Shamed One's need for a leader. That and now he has to hide in the Shamed Ones ranks in order to avoid death by his own people.

 

I was just throwing it out there as a possibility. Nom Anor could also end up being a sychophant to Onimi instead.

Given what we've seen of him recently, I doubt he'll be lost in limbo.

I chose other, not because I believe him not be shamed, but because I believe him to be part of Shimmra(even if I can not spell his name). Like twins where one child was large and the other small in the womb, these two were like that. It seems like so many times when this happens the small and supposed weak one is actually the true master and has the wisdom the other lacks.Onimi is shamed, but shamed in a way like no other.

Either that or he is just plain loopy.

My thoughts exactly. Every time we've seen Onimi, I've definitely gotten a "power behind the throne" sense from him.

And I think Tam's theory is one of the best I've heard in months. I wouldn't be at all surprised if that turned out to be true.

EXCELLENT theory, Dark Jedi Tam. Perhaps also he has some sort of mind control ability or something! Shimrra just kinda collapses when others are not around. Sentient, but very marionette-like. And doesn't he say something to the point of "I never hurt/do anything" or something else to that point...haha! A pacifist Vong!
