Is Palpatine truly afraid when the Seperatist ship is on fire, about to crash?

Is Chancellor Palpatine pretending to be afraid when the ship is on fire, about to crash, and Anakin is trying to land it safely on Coruscant? It seems as he is the strongest Force User on the ship, he should be relatively calm about the situation. Is this another one of those events that he foresees? Does he know that Anakin is going to land it safely and he should look afraid to keep his cover hidden?

Obi-Wan and Anakin seem relatively calm about the situation, yet Sidatine looks as though he is about to have a nervous breakdown....

 

Is he really freaked out that his plan of ruling the galaxy may come to a dead end? Or is he pretending to be crapping his pants to fool the Jedi?

Lets say he does foresee his survival. He would still be very scared while it was happening.

 

No, no, I'd say he's really afraid. Being that the ship he's on was cut in-half and all that he has worked for might die along with himself and the kid he wants as a side-kick, I'd say he really is afraid of what might happen. Orchestrated or not, that guy was frightened and never expected the ship to take that much damage.

Good replies but I noticed that when Anakin lands the ship safely, he and Obi-Wan let out sighs of relief and Obi-Wan says, "Another happy landing.", yet Sidatine still looks like a 5 year old who just got off a huge roller-coaster....

Im sure he was faking being afraid even though Anakin and Obi wernt even looking at him, just the same way he faked against Mace and the way he ultimatly faked falling down a reactor shaft as well.

i'll try to answer seriously, though i wonder why i'm going to try that.

It could go either way, very easily. It's not a controlled situation so the very real possibility exists that he could die and all he worked for be for nothing. It also is very believable that he's pretending to be 'simple palpantine' who would without question be crappin his drawers the whole time. I could buy into either, but i choose to believe he's scared.

Remember he was a geeser who knew nothing of the force. That is what the Jedi thought. I am pretty sure they thought he was afraid. He had to seem like he was.

 

I looked to me like he was having a heart attack, I think that would be really hard to fake.

 

I think that he is most definetly scared. Why wouldn't he be? He's planned this for years, had seen that his ultimate apprentice could be turned to the darkside, and now he could die because some piece o' sith Lt. Needa screwed up.

He probably didn't plot on being trapped in half a ship plummeting towards the ground with a 20 year old pilot with very little experience piloting large ships at the helm. According to the book and either the VD or Cross Section book a communications mishap lead to the IH being blown in half.

To say Palps wasn't scared is giving him a little too much in my book.

 

I think that he would be pretty worried that they may crash. Think of all the hard work he did to get to that point just to have it stop short of the mark because of a cruiser crashing.

Even if he was an all-powerful Sith lord, why wouldn't he be scared of plummeting towards the ground at thousands of miles per hour in a missile shaped vehicle?

He's not invincible. If there is anyway at all that he could die, it was likely to be in that moment. Why wouldn't he be scared? Why would anyone not be scared?

 

This is one of the few times you'll see Palpatine look like he's about to soil himself.

I should say he was afraid, because he knew that the future is always inmotion, and this is an event that the force wouldn't be able to save him from, even though he is the Dark Lord of the Sith

 

he might have foreseen the outcome of anakin and himself being alive, but not what happened inbewtween..

remember plan A was to ditch obiwan and run away..

..bringing obi slowed them down enough for greivous to catch them, and this all resulted in unplanned delay,
by the time they got away again they didn't have time to get off the ship, so palpy was probably terrified that he'd f'd up, and that his visions might not come true..

..in other words, he had no idea, and was thus scared s%^tless

 

Why wouldnt Palpatine be afraid of the ship crashing. He didnt plan it and he would've died and lost all his powers, and you know how the Sith are about losing their power
