i think roan fel is evil because he ordered the attack on ossus forced the jedi to vacate the coruscant temple and is in league with the sith. Can't this be discussed in one of the preexisting Legacy topics?
He did not order the attack on the Ossus temple, he instead ordered that the Jedi must not be attacked, but that order was perhaps done only for his own comfort as he was losing the control of the Empire at that point, and it was likely that his order would not be honoured by the Imperial forces, like it was not. Is he evil then? I would say yes. He has been whitewashed when it comes to the whole Sith affair, but the fact is, that he took the Empire to a galactic war that lasted 3 years. Huge numbers of people on both sides must have perished in that unnecessary war. And he choose that war over peace. Of course, perhaps he will go through additional whitewashing and it will be shown that he had nothing to do with the war at all and that he was totally powerless, but as long he is considered to be the real leader of the Empire before and during the war, then he is responsible for the war, the deaths of all the people that perished in it and everything that came after it. His evil is not the same kind of evil as that of the Sith, it is a more common kind of evil, which causes lives to be wasted for some grand reason, like restoring the Empire as the main galactic power using the YV Vongforming failure as an excuse. Either Roan Fel wanted to rule a bigger part of the galaxy and was ready to sacrifice probably at least billions of lives to achieve that goal or else he was too cowardly to oppose the war party in Empire, which would make him pretty pathetic figure.
Often they are. Some regimes or their actions simply are not worth defending. Can it really be said that someone who died fighting for Nazi Germany did not waste his life? And when we take this question to SW and in the Legacy era, I would say that for example those Imperial soldiers for died fighting against GA in the 127-130 ABY war did waste their lives. They fought for a wrong cause and ended up dying just so that the Sith could to take over most of the known galaxy.
I think what he's saying is that history is written by the victors. If the fascist won World War II, we'd be humming a different tone.
Trying to save your people from being incinerated by American bombers or butchered by Soviet soldiers is a perfectly valid cause. But yeah, the Imperials are, of course, Imperials. Their duty is to their lawful superiors, regardless of any political machinations back on Coruscant. The ideal of Galactic civilization and stability is honorable enough.
1. A better cause being, of course, never having to get into that position in the first place. 2. Let's face it, lawful Emperor or not, Congress (moffs) support the Usurper whether by force or not. My main problem with the Empire is the fact that powerful and centralized government that's controlled by oligarchy without checks or balances NEVER lasts benevolently. It constantly requires Revolution to keep it clean. Ancient China and Rome show it.
You actually believe German civilians had a choice when it came to listening to Hitler? You need to look back into your history books. Like serving the Emperor in Star Wars, its loyalty or death. Citizens rarely have choices when it comes to war, often the few decide for the many. Something that is also true in the Star Wars universe.
As John Ostander has said before, Fel is not perfect. I remember that first issue of Insider that featured a interview about Legacy. John said something to the affect of, "it is not a democracy. It values power more than anything else" in regards to Fel's Empire. Fel is most likely not overtly evil, however that does not have to mean he is a saint either. I like the question John posed to the Lit forum months ago- If the Sith are defeated, what does Fel do? Control his new galaxy spanning Empire or let the worlds of the Galactic Alliance reform their government, even if that means he is no loger the main galactic power. Interesting questions. One can only hope that once the Sith are defeat we get a few arcs about the aftermath and the new state of the galaxy. --Adm. Nick
I think you missed my point utterly. I also think you missed Star Wars point given the entire original trilogy is about resistance or slavery. Those who are the Emperor's slaves choose to be. In the end, the only option in the face of tyranny is sabotage it overtly or subtlely but never willingly even if it costs your death. I only hope I could be so brave if the time ever comes.
German Civilians had plenty of choice when it came to listening to Hitler. WWI busted up their Economy and the people were unemployed and starving. Along comes a guy with a plan to help them out.... They all follow him. They all love him. He jumpstarts the Economy. They traded future blood on their hands for prosperity. I think Stalinist Russia was a story more suited to the people really not having much of a choice. The Communist party came to power by use of Force. Stalin became leader by trying to have Trotsky offed. Any words of dissent and you were going to be killed. Carnage
Well, yeah. But if you're a German soldier in 1944 or an Imperial walker pilot in the First Battle of Coruscant, that's ancient history for you. [/quote] Well, there are two viewpoints for an Imperial: support Krayt's side, or support Fel's side. Either is defensible in my book. Ancient Rome and China were great civilizations.
Actually the average German during the Third Reich loved Hitler. He fixed the economy and made the trains run on time and made them feel proud to be German again. At the Reich's height, more Germans had copies of Mein Kampf in their homes than the Bible. Heck, a lot of Germans thought Hitler was going to rise from the dead like Jesus. But that's totally beside the point: Roan Fel is evil because Darth Krayt is evil and Roan Fel is Darth Krayt.
Kind of stupid Logic considering that Roan Fel has both of his Eyes and neither one is Yellow nor is the other Artificial, as far as we know anyway. My guess is that Roan Fel allowed the Jedi Temple to be attacked because he belived that the Jedi and Yuuzhan Vong were working together to take over the Galaxy, the Jedi oversaw the Yuuzhan Vong Shapers on a 100 Worlds and at first they did a lot of good and made a lot of progress but then the Sith Lords sabotaged the Shaping and made it look like Yuuzhan Vong were trying to retake the Galaxy again, since the Jedi were helping them in this process Roan Fel might have belived them to be responsible and ordered the Galactic Empire to invoke the Treaty of Anaxes and go to War with them and the Galactic Alliance, attacking them therefore is not Evil but Defensive because they could be a threat in his eyes, the Sith come along at the right time and offer him help and he accepts its only to be betrayed and deposed in most of his Empire, hes not bad just misguided, Later on in Legacy 7 or 8 i cant remember exactly which he learns in that Flashback Scene that the Sith were responsible for the Yuuzhan Vongs Shaping being ruined and he is no longer hostile towards the Jedi Order knowing that they arent at fault, he even offers Jedi a refuge on Bastion which they largely turn down when Cade and Wolf Sazen leave after saving his Daughter, if hes Evil he would have ordered them to be shot on site in spite of that. He also loves his Daughter very much but not to the point of leaving to save her and getting himself killed and leaving his Empire on Bastion leaderless, hes a desparate man trying to hold onto his power, And of course his Imperial Knights are all just basically Grey Jedi and not Dark Jedi or Dark Side Users, they have a sense of loyalty and honor and seem to be good people but still put their Emperor first, just like Emperial Guards in Japan put their Emperor first and foremost too, the man isnt training evil warriors just Knights and protectors, they are probably Diplomats and Advisors just like the Jedi Knights were too.
