Considering they have done a novel for so many other video games is there a reason one was not done for Fallen Order?
There is a Tie-In Comic. But maybe they have been scaling back the Tie-in stuff in general as of late focusing more on the High Republic instead.
I read the tie in comic...I just really like the 'canon story' presented in the novels. Gives more depth to the characters..
I guess but they haven't done novelizations of thing outside the movies for a while. Probably don't wanna add more confusion than their already is. Plus this was made a video game to be experienced as a video games
The comic is a prequel about Jedi Master Eno Cordova and Padawan Cere first encountering a Zeffo ruin. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Unlike Battlefront, Fallen Order is a very narrative focused game, which limits the scope for tie-in material as the game is the story.
You know, I never thought about it before but good question But then, they have also been low on tie ins with the Mandalorian despite its popularity. I think they might want to avoid doing too much for an ongoing narrative lest they end up tying the hands of the writers of the sequel game (or showrunners for the Mandalorians)
Not all of us play video games. So even just telling the 'canon storyline' without going beyond the scope of the game would be cool to me.
I always get the sense that they’ve changed tact and have decided best let the books have their own space.
The game is the Canon story. It's on the rails, and doesn't have an alternate outcome unlike KOTOR or TFU. Best to just watch a playthrough on YouTube or a cinematic compilation. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
That may well be, but it's not an option here. The cinematics are basically an animated film though imo. The game play is just a series of action pieces. It's not like making story decisions or anything like that. It just an obstacle course with beast, trooper and bounty hunter fights throughout and puzzle solving. And boss fight saber battles. It's worth watching the cutscenes at least. I dont know if this is the best one, but it's an option. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk
Fair enough, but straight up adaptations of video game stories have always been pretty rare as far as I can tell, at least in star wars. Usually it is a sequel, prequel, or sidestory (like, Battlefront Twilight Company didn't have anything to do with the actual game beyond the name and featuring soldiers in the star wars universe). So...I guess the answer to your question is that they aren't likely to do something that they rarely, if ever, do. As to why they don't do that...I dunno. Probably they think anyone interested enough by videogame title on a star wars book probably already played and liked the game, and since the stories in star wars games tend to be straightforward, that there isn't much of a market for people who are interested in a game's story that they are willing to buy a book but don't want to either play the game or watch the cutscenes on youtube.
yah they really don't do adaptations of videogames, even if there were a few ones in Legends. The whole point of one canon is that each media is a different facet of the story. You get the Fallen Order story in the game, and some lore prequel knowledge in the comic (with a few flashforwards to the current storyline), an adaptation of it would be redundant.
While they did do one for Force Unleashed they haven't done them for popular games like KOTOR. Granted KOTOR is a game about choice at the end of the day and I have a whole thing about I don't think they should try to ...Not Canonize KOTOR per say but you know....Nail it down to one thing...Since the whole thing that made KOTOR work was the ideas of choice behind it. The broad strokes should be canon but the individual details should remain a mystery.
Dark Forces had an adaptation novel too, and I think Empire At War with some really bad videogame screenshot art. not sure how many videogame novelizations there are (unless you count some of Shadows of the Empire but that's more of a multimedia project which is what is going on now)
I believe you're thinking of Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine. As far as I know, Empire of War never got any tie-in novels.
I think that cynical aspect is at work here too. It's akin to the "if we put out physical discs of TV materisl people won't subscribe to Disney+" - don't think that's true - but in the form of "you won't play the game if there is a book of it" - again, very much arguable. Chris' posts make the case that it would tap an audience uninteresred by games.
