Is there an advantage to SW fan club membership.....

Anything like options to get things in advance for Celebration 3. Are there any "special" Fan Club members only stuff at Celebration 3. Has there been anything "special" for FC members in the past celebrations? I have never been to one and I want to know if it is worth it to sign up with the Fan Club.

The fan club is worth it for the Insider subscription alone.

Nothing has been announced for C3 as far as FC membership benefits go, other than they'll be more than C2's. C2's benefits included getting into the Convention an hour earlier than the general public & a fan club members only lounge, which was visited on occasion by wandering SW celebrities. If there was anything else I don't recall. Since everyone and their grandmother was a FC member...getting into the Convention Center an hour earlier was nice, but it wasn't necessarily empty.

 

Thanks for the info. The only reason I haven't signed up so far is because you can get most of the info on the web somewhere or another (at least the really juicy stuff). I guess I should go ahead and sign up.

Anyone know anything about this NEW fan club thing? So, until they figure it out I can't renew my Insider subscription?

 

They're in the middle of some changeover which should be sorted out by the time #77 rolls out in a month or two...head over to the "Official Fan Club" forum at the OS and there's a thread or two over there explaining things.

 

i still havent gotten my 2004 membership kit, is that one of the problems too? i know a few people who have gotten theirs

 

Zuckuss, I read on Rebelscum.com that the 2004 membership kits were being shipped now. You should be getting yours soon. As for the Fan Club, I don't know why they just don't let people subscribe, and join without having to wait until the "announcement" that is coming. Speaking of whcich, does anyone know what the announcement is? I call the publisher of the Insider, and asked him if it will have anyhting to do with C3...he told me that it does not. So if anyone knows, pass it on!

Well everyone, I got the new membership kit and here is what you get:

1. A Code 3 Collectibles one sheet year calendar.
with a picture of a Millennium Falcon at the top with pop open panels on picture to see inside Falcon.

2. Lego poster with Millennium Falcon, X-Wing, and Tie Fighters.

3. STAR WARS TRADING card game poster with TESB card packs at the bottom and up top a picture of AT-ATs with displayed above them " Blasters Are Useless"

4. A double sided diorama backround side one of Geonosis battle and the other a picture of Jabba from Jedi.

5. My favorite.. a hand painted animation cel from the Ewoks animated TV series from 1985.
One of a kind for each fan club member.

And of course your regular letter from the President of the Fan Club and one from George Lucas.

That is what I got a few days ago.

Well there's a problem with your MK or canadians got extra.. Mine included a membership card picturing Darth Vader waving his lightsaber. all plasticy and nice.

Yeah if you got all that sweet stuff, then I got hosed.

The only thing I really like is the animation cel I got.

the reason you cant sign up is that they're changing something about the club, so they're holding off on subscriptions untill thats done. i dont know what the chages are though.

 

I hope they change the current membership kits.

Maybe they will be kind enough to send those who received the latest one a "I'm sorry replacement kit"


If not....

I think I will contact the Insider and express my dismay with the current kit. Maybe if enough of us who received what I did would speak up, we can get it back to what it use to be and should be.

Too many snags and hold ups have been happening with the fanclub and store..I hope this gets resolved soon we are not getting any younger. What has it been at least a month since the new store went crash.

I hope this is not an example of what to expect for Celebration III planning and delivering.

Let's hope things improve and give the fans a glimmer of hope.

 

I think the biggest problem with Celebration II was...fan lack of patience. Relax, if more people spent the same amount of time working together on stuff (as they did bitching about it afterwards) then things would have gone twice as smooth...and would this time around.

I'm a member of the fan club, and you know what I was doing an hour before and after the doors opened...stood in line outside. And considering I got to meet Anthony Daniels because of it...I consider it a fair trade for a couple hours standing outside in the nice weather.

I think the official fan club should extend a few perks to their members at C3...first chance at tickets, group discount rate on hotels associated with the convention, and maybe even something special in their gift bag. As the credit card commercial says: membership has it's priveledges!

Pabawan: Early plans are in the works to have special areas and benefits to Hyperspace / Fan Club members at the event.

And on the official Celebration III website it says this: "Improved Fan Club benefits ? for members from all over the world."

And Mr.Sansweet said there will be benefits. Probably discounted ticket prices? Soon to be revealed.

Back to the membership kits, I got all of the good stuff and a membership card, are you supposed to have a membership number??? is it necessary for anything?

 

They mainly work with names when you call them, so I'm guessing not..

then again, it proves that to them we're more than mere numbers.

When I filled in my card I just used the number above my name on the mailing label. I assume that is the actual membership number.

As for the "perks" at C2 that whole get in an hour early thing was a sham. First day, I got in line same time as my non-FC friends and guess who got in 30 minutes before I did?
And then the staff were just handing out the FC lanyards to anyone that claimed they didn't get one in the mail. So hopefully they'll have learned from what's happened before.

Absolutley, but they can't reasonably expect us to wait in line for 2+ hours just to get into the con.
The other big problem was they didn't schedule enough quality/interesting events. Hopefully they will run the good ones at least once a day. I would rather sit far away in a big room and be at the event than not get in at all.

 

I really hope they use all the entrances to the place this year instead of just two different lines.
