Sorry if this has already been discussed, but does anyone see Xizor coming back at anytime. Sure Vader blew up his skyhook, but how do we know he was still on it? I actually thought he'd be back way back when I first read SOTE, but still no mention of him (I don't think). They brought back Isard and Rendar once, why not Xizor?

Unlike Isard and Dash, Xizor is dead. Xizor never believed he could truely be defeated, and he figured that since he still had the Emperor's favor, the worst Vader could do to him was jail him. So it never entered into his thinking that he could die. At that time, Vader could have cared less for the Rebels in the Coruscant system. He didn't care for the rebellion and was intrested in seeing it crushed. But he cared even less for Xizor. He doubtlessly had covert spies or spying equipment aboard Xizor's skyhook to make certain Xizor was in no way able to escape.

Isard planned for the possibility of being defeated. Hence the creation of her own clone. But she never saw the possibility of being defeated aboard her own SSD.

No. In the novel, there's almost two minutes where Xizor *does nothing*. During those two minutes, he could have found a way to escape, maybe using a trick like Rendar. So the novel leaves it open, in fact there's no source that says *Xizor was killed by the intense heat of the turbolasers* or something like that. All we have is external sources who believe he's dead. He could very well be, I'm not try to say he survived. Actually, I wouldn't want to see him coming back - unless he appears in a new novel that happens before SOTE (that'd be great :) ) - but there's a possibility he survived.

    Here are some quotes :

    1) Near the end, Xizor talks to Vader who tells him that the Prince has two minutes to surrender. And then : (Page 377) "Xizor felt a surge of fear as the image of Vader turned ghostly and vanished. Would he do it ? Would he fire on the Skyhook ? He had less than two minutes before he found out. He had better decide what he was going to do. Fast."

    2) After that, we don't hear anymore of Xizor. Xizor's fleet commander tries to contact him, but nobody answers : (Page 378) "My prince, we are being destroyed by the attackers ! We are outnumbered and being slaughtered ! I need permission to offer our surrender ! Highness ? [...] Prince Xizor, please respond ! We must surrender or we will be blown to pieces ! Please ! [...] Highness, I--"

So... Would that be very 'in-character' for Xizor just to stand on the observation bay of his skyhook and not try to escape ? Nope. Now if he tried to escape - which I'm sure he did, given the quotes I gave you, we have no clue about his success or failure.

Maybe Xizor escaped to the Unknown Regions, had his skin dyed blue from green, and studied artwork?

"In the confusion, the Rebels escaped the palace. Xizor boarded his advanced combat vessel, the Virago, and escaped to the skyhook. High in orbit over Coruscant, a deadly space battle erupted, as Xizor's forces tried to stop the fleeing Rebels. Xizor's forces ran straight into Vader's returning task force. Blinded by his rage, Xizor stupidly announced Skywalker's presence into an open comlink.

The transmission was intercepted by Vader. Vader offered Xizor an ultimatum: call off his attack in two minutes and surrender, or suffer the price of not taking Vader's advice and staying away from Skywalker. Xizor remained silent, and his skyhook was destroyed by the Executor.

The Rebels escaped, and Xizor died aboard the Falleen's Fist. The remnants of Black Sun fell into the control of Moff Fliry Vorru. Guri escaped the destruction of Xizor's trappings. Unknown to nearly everyone -- possibly Xizor himself -- was that he had a surviving relative who was offplanet during the Falleen disaster that wiped out his family. Xizor's niece Savan survived, and sought to take control of Black Sun after his death."

Outside POV. But I guess this is like the Isard debate. TOS says she's dead, but according to the book, there's a strong chance of her survival.

It's not an in-universe document, so what it says goes.

Exactly like the Isard thing. TOS say she's dead, but some prefer the open ending of Isard's Revenge. (I do.) And I say, given the situation, that I have the right to believe Xizor had a chance to escape and might have suceeded.

Dash Rendar is not a very good example really, The big difference here is that dash rendar was planned to escape from the beginning of the multimedia event. He had the escape scene in the game, and it was also in the SOTE trading cards, and put in art of brother's hildebrandt with a quote as well.

As for xizor he didn't get that luxery of having that part of the multimedia event done for him, every source implies that he died, shows that he lived.

As for isard, she was implied that she was given a special punishment for all her crimes, but in the case of her, the outcome of being trapped forever until she dies, effectivily killed her off from ever showing up again. She is as good as dead to the galaxy at hand(thanks to NRI classifieing it as well). Her existance is a mockery of life. She is being treated as a machine by machines in a place where no human contact can be made, and no information can be seen. If someone was to try to help her escape, or if she was able to mount an escape she would be expelled out into space and die in the vacuum. So chance of her return is zilch, and if and when the lusankya is decomissioned or destroyed she is definitely dead, she is as good as dead as it is.

Next we have to think about the specs of a skyhook. Xizor couldn't have escaped using the one elevator connected to his palace since the palace was destroyed.

He would have to get into an escape pod or escape shuttle if any existed. Now the question was how close was an escape pod or shuttle to him? Could he activate it in time? Because if there wasn't enough time the explosion from the skyhook would have smashed his escape pod or shuttle as he exited. As well standard imperial precedures as can be seen in tie fighter and other sources is to always scan for escape pods and shoot them down or capture them if lifesigns can be found in them. So even if he did make it to a shuttle his odds of surviving are reduced dramatically.

So the odds that he died are much higher than the odds that he survived, logically.

I'm not sure I'm following your logic, Val...

Or were you speaking... ironically ?

EDIT : Oh, okay... You edited it. :p

EDIT 1 : "every source implies that he died, shows that he lived." Huh ?

What I'm trying to say is there was a greater chance that he died because of standard imperial precedure, or physics of an explosion, compared to extremly small chance that he survived which would have taken extreme luck on xizor's part.

Something like 90% chance that he died, and 10% chance that he could have survived. As far as I know xizor is not correlian. Really the odds are not in xizor's favor.

But Xizor probably had something more in reserve than just an escape pod. Therefore it would have been harder for the Imps to kill him if he fleed. I can't see him jumping into an ordinary escape pod when he was the third most powerful being in the GFFA. I think the 2 mins Vader gave him was enough for him to realize that he didn't want to take a chance, and for him to flee.

Standard imperial precedure is to target and disable or destroy escape shuttles/craft, or escape pods. I mentioned both above.

Yup, Val... Except the battle of Coruscant was a real mess. Let's say Xizor ran to the Falleen's Fist hangar and took a ship, maybe his Virago and then exited the skyhook. He was among... hum... a lot of similar fighters (useful for 'camouflage'), plus Rebel fighters, who may I remind you, used the explosion of the station to cover their escape... What tells you Xizor couldn't have pulled the same trick if he indeed took of the station with a starfighter ? The Imperial 'procedures' wouldn't be able to do a lot against this... The sensors of the Imperial ships were blinded for a little while right after the explosion.

I'm sure it wasn't standard Imp procedure to let the death stars get blown up but....

I think there's a good chance he might have lived, just based on how the EU likes to play the "don't believe they're dead unless you see a body" card. Maybe he died on the skyhook. Maybe he escaped but was hunted down and killed by one of the Emperor's Hands or Kyle Katarn or Boba Fett (or all three at once, maybe working in an uneasy alliance [face_mischief] ) - I see possibilities for serious cool short story here :D . Or maybe he got out and was controlling Black Sun from behind the scenes, like Thrawn and the Reborn Emperor did before they showed up on the scene - after all, I believe that the last trilogy of YJK said that Czetheros was the executor of Black Sun's plans rather than the spider at the center of the web. I don't think this possible loose thread should mess up the focus of the NJO, but maybe a future book or SW Gamer story will make sure that Xizor is unquestionably dead. But maybe it's best that he went out in a hail of turbolaser fire from an SSD driven by Vader, who was understandably quite peeved with the little reptile [face_devil] .

Xizor, three words: River in Egypt. :p

You know, when I read IR, I assumed that Isard had been shot by Iella, so I wasn't surprised when SW.com listed her as deceased. Was there ever any question?

Isard and Xizor are both alive and are living comfortably on Yaga Minor with 2 healthy boys and one girl.

    There's your happy ending.
