This might have been discussed before but I haven't seen any topics. There's a major problem with the new Chapter's storyline. In Labyrinth of Evil, when the attack on Coruscant occurs, Obi-Wan and Anakin are supposed to be on a planet called Tythe, trying to locate Dooku, not on this new snowy planet (don't remember the name). How will the events from both the show and the book be explained to keep continuity correct?

The side adventure to Nevaan (or whatever the planets name is) occurs between events in LOE (the planet's name is mentioned in LOE).

Now that you mention it, the name sounds a little familiar. I read the book over a month and a half ago so I probably forgot. It's really confusing the way the plot is being layed out this season.

The Episode III lead-in novel by James Luceno. It came out at the end of January.

Oh... Okay. I haven't really been following the books like I used to. That would explain why I feel so lost when people mention LoE.

I don't follow the EU; but for those of you who do (and you probably already know this;so forgive if i sound condescending). The current season of clone wars is playing out the "scroll" we will see in ROTS.

so if that's the case, wouldn't it be obvious to contradict the events in labyrinth? (i'm not being a smart ass; i'm curious?)

Surprisingly, I find that Clone Wars has actually validated LOE. The scene where Shaak Ti is trying to get Palpatine out mirrors the scene in LOE exactly, even down to the dialogue. Correct me if I'm wrong though, cuz it's been a while since I've read the book, but i'm positive that at least the lines are from LOE.

    >>The current season of clone wars is playing out the "scroll" we will see in ROTS. so if that's the case, wouldn't it be obvious to contradict the events in labyrinth?<<

The opening scroll is being told across different mediums, but all will ultimately connect somehow.

Basicly, LOE came first and plotted out the events leading up to ROTS with the opening scroll as a basis.

Then the LOE author collaborated with the author of the ROTS novel, who in turn passed on the LOE author's questions directly to Lucas.

So, with the Lucas input, both authors made sure their books complimented each other (and a third coming out next year, titled Dark Lord, will form with them a trilogy of sorts).

Then LFL passed on this to GT for the cartoon and he based the cartoon's events around LOE's framework.

LFL then made adjustments to LOE to account for the cartoon and adjustments to the cartoon to better account for LOE.

And lastly, the author of the webstrip Reversal of Fortune on hyperspace took all that and meshed it together to tell that story which occurs concurrently or adapts scenes directly from the others.

Leaving it to the uber-geeks to figure out how all that ends up fitting together ;)

Although I loved chapter 23, there are already continuity problems. Shaak Ti goes with Stass Allie to get Chancellor Palpatine - I distinctly remember one of them tackling Palpy to get him to come with them. Also, he was guarded by Red royal guards, not blue ones, although this is minor - I loved reading about the red guards fight though, it was really cool in the book.

Another thing CLone wars left out is the presence of Palpatine cadre of advisors who later become the Imperial Council - Sate Pestage and Isard for example. And no, the dialogue is totally different in Labyrinth of Evil. Grievous' ship rises by the window, which is smashed in, and Stass Allie fights off battle droids that jump in as Shaak gets Palps away. Republic gunships come in and drive Grievous away, he never entres the room. They then decide to take the hovertrain to the bunker.

At this point Padme is with Bail Organa and Mon Mothma, helping the civilians battle vulture droids in walking mode.

Then comes the train scene, where Mace duels and defeats grievous, sending off the train, while Kit destroys some of Grievous' magnaguards. Palpatine is then taken by gunship to the bunker, accompanied by a male human jedi,a female twi'lek jedi, and Roron Corobb and Foul Moudama - they were never int he chancellor's office scene, as this is the first time they appear in the novel. Shaak and Stass then leave to fight in the ground battles.

Grievous then sneak attacks - and after all the red guards are killed, The ithorian, talz, human, and twi'lek Jedi are all that are left to defend palpatine....

I think the only way to possibly make it all fit is to hold the cartoon on the same level as comic adaptations with a few art errors - like how the comic version of the Thrawn Trilogy compares to the original novels, or the comic adaptations of the films for that matter (compressed dialogue and what not).

I haven't read LOE yet, but from those descriptions I can see some ways to insert the cartoon stuff "between the lines", so to speak. Or, cases such as that can be written off as being an adaptation, in which case the original source's version (LOE) would take precedence, but I don't think that will be necessary.

Isn't CLONE WARS contradicting Labyrinth of Evil?

Yeah, so?! It's not like anthing written down hasn't been thrown out before only to be explained again later on in some other book. Otherwise Boba Fett is really Jaster Mereel and not the Clone of Jango.

The only thing you can count on, is not to count on anything GL hasn't directly done. I like the EU stuff, but some of you need to lighten up on all these "continuity errors" and just enjoy the show; and don't talk in the movie! :D

It seems likely that the Nelvaan sequences in the cartoon take place after the Tythe sequences in the novel.

Which would include the cartoon ;)

And, the quicker apparrent continuity errors are brought up, the sooner they can be resolved. And once resolutions are available, people who do pay attention to internal consistancy of a story while watching these cartoons can have their concerns addressed.

    It is awsome

The only problem I had was figuriing out where to put the Nevlaan Sequence into LoE. ANyone got the page it was mentioned?

As for the great description og GG plan to capture Palpy from the novel, we must remember that even though the cartoon is longer now, it certainly doesn't have the time to explain the sequence of tunnels leading from "The Works" (the place where Sidious and Dooku meet on Coruscant at the end of AoTC) to the senate district. Nor does it have time to depict a chase as broad as that of the novel. (It would take a whole episode at least..leaving out Anakin and Obi Wan completely)

If they somehow fit in the duel with Mace and Grevious I will be very happy..it doesnt have to be on the train, I just wanna see GG get schooled :)
I also hope we get to see Bail.

The clone war cartoons are like the movies. Somethings are not going to make the final cut, probably due to time, editing, whatever. We ain't going to get the whole begining battle of coruscant in the animation series. Also, between the time LOE was made and came out and the time the cartoons were made and came out, some things could change. I remember some guys posted that Shak Ti in the cartoon did some amazing things with the staff of the magna droids against the invading droids. In LOE novel, that was never mentioned. In LOE, we never read anything that Mace and Yoda aided in the defense of coruscant, as shown in chapter 23. We also didn't read about clone jettroppers boarding another space vessel in the novel either.

Once the cartoon series ends, I hope some bright, young Padawan out there can interweave a timeline of events to help clear up some of the seemingly contradictory elements.

Ah, who am I kidding? It's not suppose to make sense.

Keep an eye out on discussion in The Ultimate AOTC & the Clone Wars Timeline.

Mav's been doing some excellent work and will probably have a tentative breakdown by the end of the week, and I'll have a final analysis incorporated into the actual timeline sometime in May probably.
