The collision occurred at about 23:40 ship's time on April 14 1912. (About 02:38 GMT on the 15th, or 22:38 EST on the 14th. Nominally Titanic was in a GMT-3 time zone, but in fact they adjusted ships time more frequently than strictly nescesary, so her clocks were running a couple minutes ahead of her technical time zone.) and the final plunge occurred 2 hours and 40 minutes later at 02:20 ship's time on the 15th. 710 of the passengers and crew escaped in the lifeboats, 1,514 perished. Scaling today against that day, we're about 8 hours from the collision at the time of this post. Steaming at 21 knots, Titanic is 193 miles away from the point of collision, a distance she will close, oblivious to what lies ahead, over the next 8 hours. This video, made using a CG model of the Titanic and running in Unreal engine 4, depicts the entire sinking in real time:
Iceberg? I just read a few days ago that Black Panther sunk the Titanic. https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottm...1-3-billion-wins-black-jeopardy/#2ef9d809638f
The YouTube video above is probably better than the Cameron version, but it's just another inaccurate fictional account. Titanic was secretly exchanged with its sister ship Olympic, which was then intentionally sunk as part of an elaborate scheme to defraud the insurers, Lloyd's of London. Everybody knows this. For a more accurate account of how the insurance scam played out, see Deep Rising:
Can I ask that we have a minutes silence to honour those that lost their lives in this terrible tragedy. And then it's party time!
