Okay, this is something that I've toyed with doing, so I'm going to try it here and the YJCC. Anyone use iTunes? Every week, on Tuesdays, they put up a couple of songs for free. Usually, these are from up and coming bands, and there's quite a bit of good stuff that they let you download- I've found some favorites by doing so. I'm thinking that every week, we discuss the songs that they put up to download.

This week, they have the following:

    Artist: Barlowgirl
    Song: Let Go
    Album: Another Journal Entry

    Artist: Brandi Carlile
    Song: Closer To You
    Album: Brandi Carlile

Let Go: It's a little poppy sounding for my tastes, but it's got a solid rock sound. It sounds like a couple artists. Evenesence comes to mind, as does Avril Lavine, which is an odd combination. It's not bad, not great, but a casual song with an okay beat.

Closer To You: I like this one a little more. It's got much more of a country sounding ... sound than the above song, which was a little more urbany sounding to my ears. Good beat, good lyrics.

I'm not 100% sure. I use my credit card for my account, but it doesn't charge the free songs to it. I believe that you can use the prepaid cards, or PayPal.

I liked Through the Iris. It was a solid rock song. I dont know if I would like the rest of their stuff though. That stuff gets boring after awhile.

Through the Iris was a fun song. I've seen the CD in stores, but I haven't listened to anything else by them.

Okay, this week, a couple new songs:

    Song: High
    Arist: James Blunt
    Album: Back to Bedlam

    Song: Sketches
    Arist: Daniel Lanois
    Album: Belladona

Downloading them now, so I don't know how they sound, but I'll put up a quasi-review when I do.

Can you download the songs if you don't have an iPod?

Good question. I am pretty niaive with this stuff. Are iTunes in MP3 format? If they could be downloaded for free in MP3 format, straight to your computer, rather than an IPOD (which I don't have), then I would be very interested in this.

Yes, you can download songs without an iPod, you just need iTunes.

Thanks for upping this, I couldn't find it. Past couple weeks:

    Lately:

Rock & Roll Queen by The Subways
    Wounded Feet by Telecast
Banjo Boy by Ryan Shupe & The Rubberband Band
Gimme Just A Little Sign by Theodis Early

Those are the ones that I've kept from the past couple weeks, there have been some others that I've really disliked.

Rock & Roll Queen - Okay song, not quite what I like. ***
Wounded Feet - Has a really nice, laid back sound to it, very relaxing. ****
Banjo Boy - This is a really fun song about a rocker with a Banjo. *****
Gimme Just A Little Sign - Pretty good soul/blues song. ****

Currently on the list: Silikon (Featuring Sasha Perera) by Modeselektor & Sasha Perera and Rock & Roll Queen by the Subways. Silikon wasn't that good.

Even more pertinent question: does iTunes cost anything?

Nope - It's a free download. My copy came from my computer.

    This week:

Don't Push by The Exit on the album Home For An Island and Dou Way Robyn / Sancta Mater by Trio Mediaeval on the album Stella Maris a classical piece.

Haven't listened to them yet, because I'm still downloading the Jarhead album.

Another song that I missed earlier - Bom Bom Bom, by Living Things off their album Ahead of the Lions. That was a good song, very fun to listen to.

    Unfortunently, no.

    Okay, this week's songs:

Dou Way Robyn / Sancta Mater, Trio Mediaeval Stella Maris - I really enjoyed listening to this song, being the first classical one that I've seen on this. Very relaxing. *****

Don't Push, The Exit, Home for an Island - This one was okay, Alternative, easy to listen to, but ultimately forgettable.

Lost the sound on my computer, so downloading does nothing.

And I forget what causes it.

This week, there's only one song: Scandalous, by LaToya London on the album Love & Life. Haven't listened to it yet, but I'm not a big fan of R&B, but we'll see how it is.

How do I roll back the settings?

    P. S. LaToya London was a American Idol top ten finisher. You are warned.

Off the top of my head, I'm not sure, I did it by mistake once to my keyboard. Go to settings and fiddle.

Just listened to the song, and eh. Not very thrilled with the track at all. Sounds just like every other R&B song that I've heard. Rating: *

    Newest song from last week:

Jingle Bells by Diana Krall & The Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra on the Christmas Songs (iTunes Version) Album.

Getting into the season. It's a decent cover of the song.
