I've just recieved an e-mail from someone claiming to be from Lucasfilm.

I just want to post a message for whoever the smart aleck is who sent me this. I"M NOT AFRAID!!!

(just in the longshot that this is legit, I apologise to all partys mentioned in the e-mail however, I feel that it would infringe my artistic creativity if I was to publically withdraw all of my post, threads and comments)

PS - I dont need a job with Lucasfilm so I'm not really bothered.

I do however publically apologise to using the term, "his chubby goodness" :D

I once got an e-mail from Lukesfilm.*

    * Actually, I HAVE gotten several e-mails from Lucasfilm and their affiliates for things like AtomFilms contest info, and StarWars.com registration, etc. But it's funnier this way. You should laugh now.

    Rick McCallum loves you!

I've posted this here because the e-mail refers to comments I made on this board. Now, because I suspect this is a hoax, I'm posting it here because I belive the culprit is on these boards. Therefore it is a kind of open reply to those responsible.

Dont take life too seriously, I dont.

(PS- Just incase anyone was wondering what my comments were, check out my older posts. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D )

please dont sue. I've not finished my book yet. (just in case)

So what was the e-mail address? Luc4sf1lm@hotmail.com?

I mean come on. It's not hard to decipher a hoax from a real e-mail.

Are you asking me or twowiththeforce? It is possible to send an e-mail with somebody else's e-mail address appearing as the outgoing address.

That's true. Every day I get a couple of emails in my spam folder from microsoft telling me to download the patch they've attached. I know that Microsoft never sends exe. files. You have to download them from the website, so this is obviously some type of trojan horse. But the sender is "security@microsoft.com". Now how it's done I don't know, but it is possible.

Yeah, the thing is they can send from an e-mail address that is not their own (and it doesn't even have to be a real e-mail address, or the domain could be real but not the beginning part [for example, there certainly is a microsoft.com, but there probably is not a juanmujibarmcgillicuddy@microsoft.com but you could still send an e-mail from juanmujibarmcgillicuddy@microsoft.com]), but the perpetrator of the hoax could never retrieve and/or respond to e-mail from that address, except possibly with advanced hacking skills, or maybe if they are using the address of somebody they know and they happen to know that person's password, but I've never seen it to happen

I saw a program once where you could "mask" your email address, and make it what eva you like.

    For Example
    GeorgeLucas@Lucasfilm.com

Hacking is a much wonderful thing.

Scan the email for any odd attachments, even if it says there are no attachments. The program to change the name has to come with the email. Or maybe check if the email is an unusual size for text. That's my tutorial on how to stop hacked up email.

Not necissarly, give me your email address, and I'll send you an email appearing to originate from ANYWHERE.

Kevin had a file on The Screen Savers one day that let you send an e-mail where you could make up the address and it would look legit.

    And like that...he's gone.

I can help with a little explanation of how it can be done.

Using CDONTS on any MS-IIS server, you can generate an email in plain text or HTML format, and send it along to any address you like. You can specify the senders address as anything you wish as long as it conforms to the standard 'name@server.net' format.
This is the typical method of sending mail without using an email client. Similar methods exist on all web servers, actually.

To see an example of how this is done, go to this site: Insult Generator <-- Warning, very, very bad language used in this program.

For the purposes of keeping things simple, the sender address ALWAYS comes through as "someperson@somewhere.com"

A letter from Lucasfilm would not have the spelling and punctuation errors you've quoted above... it would also have come from the legal firm representing Lucas, not Lucasfilm itself...

    It's a fake...

Besides, there's no friggin way something like that would hold up in any court. You can really say anything you want about anyone you want, no matter who they are. Short of slander or total defamation of character, anyway... And even then, it normally has to be published to be libel.

How people react to what you say is another matter altogether. People don't normally respond well to folks insultiing each other all the time. That's why people are generally friendly to each other.

In any case, there is nothing legally binding that says you can't shoot your mouth off.

That said... The email be a hoax.

It's fake. They would not email from lucasfilm.

Trust me, I've gotten joke emails from people (including one that supposedly came from Bill Clinton, and I KNOW that one was fake)

It is possible to mask your email. It's also very easy to do.

I would not pay this any mind.
