Jag and Jaina -- where are they heading? (Possible Destiny's Way and Ylesia spoilers)

Okay. The purpose of this thread is to question and figure out the direction of Jagged Fel and Jaina Solo's relationship, while at the same time reviewing the facts we already know.

At the beginning of the war, Jaina doesn't seem to have time for love. Sure, she's dated at the Jedi academy (with Zekk), and she has had her fair share of infatuations.

Then along comes Dark Tide II: Ruin. While at a ceremony on one of the herdships of Ithor, Jaina meets Jagged (Jag) Fel, son of Baron Soontir Fel, and an extraordinary pilot. Jaina finds Fel quite handsome, and feels a slight flutter in her stomach when she speaks to him.

Jag leaves the known galaxy, and returns to the Unknown Regions. Jaina gets on with her life, and all indications are that Jag was just another guy in the life of Jaina Solo.

Then comes Kyp Durron. The Jedi Master tricks Jaina into lending him support in a strike against the Yuuzhan Vong shipwomb in the Sernpidal system. Kyp asks Jaina to be his apprentice (mostly as a plan to throw her off) and she seems slightly taken with him until she realises his deception and slaps him in the face.

A few months later, Zekk is trying to worm his way back into Jaina's life. But Jaina has long ago gotten over Zekk, and her thoughts return (briefly) to Jag.

On Hapes, Jaina is reunited with Jag as he encounters her during his scouting mission to learn more of the Vong. Jaina seems happy when she first hears of his arrival, and they attend a diplomatic ball together.

After this, they argue constantly and Jag gets offended. When Jaina finally realises her feelings for him and rescues him from captivity, Jag seems unhappy to see her, and Jaina feels rejected.

About a month after this, Jaina, Jag and Kyp travel to help defend Borleias from the Yuuzhan Vong. Jag gets himself into a very tight situation in his starfighter, and Jaina (against Jag's wishes) stays to rescue him.

On the surface, Jag asks Jaina why she rescued him and she informs him that she didn't want him to go away like everyone else. She begins crying, and Jag, rather than walking out in disgust, embraces her and kisses her.

The relationship has begun, and seems to continue at a steady rate after this, and it looks like Jaina and Jag will be together for some time.

Now, I haven't read Ylesia or Destiny's Way, but I've heard some things.

Is it true that in Ylesia, Jaina and Jag go off to 'do something' after playing a game of cards of some sort? This would suggest a strong relationship and the will to take things further in the relationship.

But then come murmurs that in Destiny's Way, Jag leaves with no apparent reason.

Which way is the relationship heading between these two? Are they to spend their lives together forever or to be separated and single for the rest of their lives?

What are your thoughts?

(Any updated information from Ylesia and Destiny's Way on the whole Jaina-and-Jag situation would be very helpful).

 

The Jag/Jaina/Kyp thing has become one of the few positive buzzes that the New Jedi Order has recieved not blasted by the fans so they're going to milk it for everything that its worth.

They don't have sex if that's what you mean. Jag Fel tried to get Jaina to go to bed with him using some lines that either Uncle Wedge of Wes Janson cooked up for him (I would pay money...and I'm talking 20-40 dollars to see that scene) to try to help himself to her womanly wiles but she instead diverts him to a Sabbac game which removes him of all his current Republic currency which I assume he got for flying with them as an auxillary or he borrowed from Uncle Wedge.

 

Thanks for the info, Charlegmane19. That sounds sort of weird, as Jag never struck me as the kind of guy who would try to get into bed with someone in that kind of way, especially if they were his girlfriend.

Looks like Jag and Jaina are entering a strange stage.

Still no confirmation on Jag's appearance in Destiny's Way...

 

You know what I just realized? I found another reason why I don't like Jag! He reminds me of the one ex boyfriend that I don't like and want to spit on if I ever see him again!

See, Jag comes in as an imperial from the unknown regions. He has dark, handsome looks and a strange way about him.

My ex boyfriend comes in as a hippie french canadian! He had dark, handsome features and a definite strange way about him! And people wonder why I don't like Jag. . .Couple that with Jag's botched efforts to get Jaina into the sack and you've got a perfect match!

Please, please, please can anybody give information about Jag's appearance in Destiny's Way?

I just read the extended version of the excerpt at the end of Traitor and Jag comes across as cool and militaristic.

I know that he and Jaina don't have scenes together in Destiny's Way, and I also heard that Jaina has no idea how she feels.

Is it just me or does is this relationship going to dissolve as just another boring, unimportant one?

 

On the contrary. I think that the prospect of a relationship firing up and getting really hot, then fizzling out is the most exciting idea that I've heard for the Star Wars universe. For a major character like Jaina, it's different indeed!

I can only hope that they don't take the boring route and turn out another run of the mill happily ever after relationship. I know that most people only want to see that, but I don't. It makes me snooze.

They didn't ... in Ylesia. Darn. I thought they did.

The only thing I know about Jag in Destiny's Way is that he arrived to help Han and Leia fight off coralskippers in Chapter 1.

 

What?!? No Jag/Jaina scenes in DW? All those pages and not even one?

I'm halfway through it right now, and he has holocommed her once to talk about jacen... it left her dreaming of his kisses but that doesn't really count. How can they not move this on in one of the hardcovers? Kyp doesn't seem to do anything but get more mellow, and Zekk's nowhere to be seen.

So maybe I should read Ylesia...

But I agree with NarundiJedi, what ever happens to Jaina let's have a more real-world type relationship for her. She's only 19/20, and there's only really been Zekk before, right? It seems like everyone in SW gets to meet their soul mate and live happily ever after... how many 20 year olds in real life experience this? Not anyone I know. When you're that young your mind is still changing rapidly, and it's hard to keep consistent on anything for long. She could have a go with Jag, then remember her 'true' feelings for Zekk, and then perhaps decide that they're both immature morons and head for the older man, that symbol of maturity Kyp Durron....

I think that that relationship has gotten a fair about of blasting. The only relationship that I think did not get much blasting was Anakin-Tahiri relationship, until Anakin died (then it got blasted).

 

Well the positive buzz and the attention of it seems to far outweigh the negative, at least on this board. It seems to have sparked genuine interest...including in me when I tend to view things as lackluster for my poor Kyppy

The love triangle wasn't even *started* by Del Rey / NJO......or it wasn't intentional. There is *NO* Love *triangle*!

There was no plans for Jaina getting a love interest either.

Jag was an character he made up and inserted as a 'gift' to later authors.

Hence Elaine Cunningham adding the Kyp snoogins is just as valid.

But now Jedi_Liz informs us that Jaina doesn't know how she feels? She seemed happy enough with Jag...

 

Ohh, I hope so, I think this will be a long, drawn out thing - as they can be in real life - even when you meet the one it can take a while to realize it.... and long term realtionships ARE NOT boring....

I'll say it until the day I die. And maybe I'll come back and haunt the authors until Kyp and Jaina get together.

Jaina and Jag do not share any scenes in DW as mentioned before. Jaina for the most part is confused about what exactly she should allow Jag to mean to her. At times, she longs for him, indicating a rather physical relationship IMO. Jaina is likewise confused about Kyp and his new personality, not being able to reconcile it with the person that she had know previously.

It appears that Kyp and Jaina have grown closer even if their relationship it to remain a friendly one. Jaina confides in Kyp about her feeling regarding Jacen?s return and seeks his advice for which he offers along with an effort to cheer her up. His relationship with Jaina is described as ?paternal? due to her involvement with Jag. It appears that Kyp is making good on his vow to himself to be there for Jaina for as long as she needs him. I think that this is good character development of Kyp, irregardless of how their relationship plays out.

Jaina could face opposition if she were to take her relationship with Jag to another level. Leia expressed concerns about it and hoped that Jaina did not rectify her relationship with Jag the way she did with her relationship with Han. When Jaina tells Jacen of her relationship with Jag, he shows some negativity toward it, calling him ?stuck up?. Jaina?s response to this is to scowl and insist that Jag is not like that. It is hard to interpret the nature of that scowl. She could be scowling because she really cares for him and feels that Jacen has judged him unfairly or she could be scowling because she sees Jacen?s pov and is not willing to accept/admit it. It could be either one.

Jacen at that point decides to drop the subject and here too one could interpret matters as they see fit. Jacen could sense in his sister, anger at his statement as simply does not want to argue or he could sense something else and decide it is better left for another time. In Ylesia, Jacen consciously decides to mind his own business with regards Jaina?s relationship with Jag. He could have done so because he feels that Jaina is an adult and therefore her personal affairs is not his business, or he could have done so because he senses her confusion and thus feels she needs to work matters out. It is really a matter of interpretation and personally, I don?t interpret it in any particular way.

I guess I?ll have to reread Ylesia because I don?t see where Jag made any proposition to Jaina. Of course, if someone wants to offer a quote, I'm receptive. Someone said retiring to someplace private (assuming that it was sexual in nature) showed that they had a strong relationship. I have to disagree with that. Sex does not solidify a relationship, especially when one party is confused about their feelings for the other and the relationship itself. In fact, that could only complicate the matter.

 

Going someplace private doesn't neccesarily mean they had sex.

They could have just made out or something.

I personally think it would be awfully stupid of Jaina to have sex with anyone right now. It's a crappy time in the GFFA to get pregnant by accident.

If they had had sex, they wouldnt have mentioned Sabacc.

I recall jag mentioned in a holo how he wished he was there to kiss her or somesuch and Jaina's reaction was that of someone who had 'those kinds of feelings'.

?Not at all.? She rose from the table. ?Just one thing.?

He gained his feet and straightened his impossibly neat black uniform. ?What?s that??

?I think you?re right about not doing all the work. I intend to delegate a fair share to you.?

Jag nodded. ?Very good Major. I hope this will contribute to your development as an officer.?

?Oh.? He followed her out of the wardroom. ?I?m sure that it will.?
