Yes, I know he was fighting a very unfair battle, since he was blasting a very high Jedi Master. However, it wasn't necessary for him to be killed off.

If he were to have simply fled via a working jetpack, the audience could conclude "Hey, Jango's gonna continue providing DNA for Kamino and continue teaching his kid. Okay then."

This would have just fine since neither are in RoTS.

(waits for DarthBoba to step in)

But, that takes away an important element to the Boba story.

jango in all honesty was an expendable character, i didnt mind seeing him get his "head" handed to him by mace.

Jango had to die, otherwise Boba Fett wouldn't have gotten his helmet and armor. Oh, I do hope Lucas adds a scene to RotS showing teen-age Boba Fett, repainting his father's well polished helmet!

I love those kind of posts, you can't tell whether someone is joking, or whether their so ignorant, they make fun of somebody with the wrong information, either way it's good.

I don't think the match was unfair, Jango took out one of those big creatures that was charging at him with one shot, all Jango needed was one shot at Windy.

Jango didn't have to die, but he sure deserved to die! Anyone who leaves the "high ground", and drops right in the middle of a gigantic sword fight deserves to die.

JUST SHOOT THEM FROM THE FREAKIN' BALCONY!!!!

That "big creature" was a lightsaber wielding force user.

As for the armor, Boba could have just as easily inherited it from Jango. I don't have to be dead to pass my old sneakers to my little brother.

Jango's death added a new factor to Boba's backstory. And I could just picture the prequel-haters' reaction to what they would precieve as a 'another continuity error' by having Jango just fly away or escape:

    "Where did he go?"
    "Why did he leave?"
"Is Boba really just Jango in the OT?"

et al ad infinitum. I'm glad he got iced by Sam Jackson.

you know, how do we know he really died, I mean he could have switched armor with a battle droid, and snuck out the back entrance dressed like a battle droid, only to wind up falling into the great sarlac pit which had conveniently been taking a long weekend on geonosis, and after being preserved by magic sarlac enzymes he managed to blast a hole in the side of it only to find that his droid armor looks like his old armor but somehow turned green, and after hearing the news that his son boba was eaten by jawas, he was so depressed that he decided to take on the identity of little boba and start his bounty hunting trade all over again from scratch after first reclaiming his ship from the decapatated battle droid that had been flying around in his ship for 20 or 30 years trying to land it despite his droid head being stuck in a pothole on geonosis...

    ...or I made this up
