I was always wondering if there's an answer to this question. Why did Jango want a personal clone, and did he love him as a ''real son''? Or he had an agenda of his own with him?

Well yeah, Boba and Jango seem close, Boba was sad when his father was killed. He probably wanted a clone "son" so his legacy could live on... the same reason we have children. Except Jango did not apprently have a wife and he probably wanted a child who was 100% his.

I guess Jango didn't do very well with the ladies. Then again, he must have quite an ego (after all, an entire genetically engineered army is clones from his template) and may have thought the best possible son would be one with his exact genotype, not one mixed with another's.

I think he loved his son. Boba certainly seems to love him.

But he was fairly attractive and seemed pretty sure of himself.

Jango seemed highly practical, and he obviously wanted a son who could follow in his footsteps. Well, rather than getting mixed up with some romance and introducing unknown genes to the mix, he figured it would be better to just clone himself and raise the clone as his own son. While Jango is no doubt a ladies man in his own right, I doubt he was interested in any kind of romantic attachment. For someone constantly on the run, this was probably the best solution. At least that how I read it.

That's a good explanation. Easier, practical and pure genes. And no reason for him not to love a part of himself that's exactly like him.

My guess is that Jango Fett, as bounty hunter, really has no time for a romantic attachment in his life. Also, he leads a wandering, dangerous lifestyle, so it would be rather unfair to a woman.

Thus my guess is that Jango wants a companion, and the easiest solution is to have a clone of himself, since he already has so many of them mass-produced. And of course, since Boba is an exact clone of him, not modified, Jango would find it easier to interact with Boba.

My guess is that Jango learnt to love Boba over time, just as a father does to his son.

I doubt Jango's apparent lack of female companionship has anything to do with his concern for the fairer sex. Most likely, he's just a selfish son of a gun who doesn't want to be tied down to any one person.

As for whether he genuinely loves Boba, I'd say that he does, but only because it's an extension of loving himself. My read of Jango is that he's egocentric.

Jango's a typical lonely, fourty year old man, who kills people for a living, he wants a son, to carry on his footsteps of killing later on, and a companion. He's just like everyone else ;)

    Interesting question.

I think Jango just wanted a son. I suppose he could've gotten one the old fashioned way, but the way he chose ensured no strings and that it would literally be a reproduction of himself. His genes would be passed down, unaltered.

Insofar as he could love anyone, I think Jango loved Boba. They seem pretty close. Boba was clearly devastated when his father died, and Jango called Boba "son" in the asteroid field, showing that he did consider him his child, not just a clone.

In the Bounty Hunter game there's a whole thing about him wanting his legacy to live on like he helped preserve Jaster's legacy by using his ship.

It speaks well of his ego. And it isn't uncommon for fathers to want their sons to follow in their footsteps. In relation to Lucas, I read in a biography that his father wanted him to go into the family stationary business. This leads me to question what if Boba did not want to be a bounty hunter? If there was ever a doubt, him witnessing the death of his father, sealed it. He would avenge his father by becoming his father; an interesting concept that coincides with the Anakin/Luke relationship throughout the saga.

Especially if they only have one son. Lucas was an only son, though not an only child (three sisters).

Maybe Jango was thinking "Chicks love guys with kids." But I guess he wasn't Taun We's type; she prefers guys like Obi-Wan. :p

    Hmmmmmm,

"Hey Dad, welcome back. Have a good trip?"--Boba

"Yes Son, killed Zam but good. By the way, I love you."--Jango

    Hmmm,

    Doesn't seem quite right does it? 8-}

I think that Jango really loved his son, and would do almost anything for him. And I know that Boba loves his "dad." I mean, look at the way he looks when he sees his "dad" dies.

Remember, Jango was just a simple man, trying to make his way through the universe.... not a Ladies' Man trying to make his way through the universe. It would have been good if Zam and Jando did the horizontal Lambada and Boba was the end product.

I am sure Jango had a test drive with Zam, she was hot (in an EU entry it is implied that they ''had something together'' in the past)

Well, also if Jango got some woman pregnant the old fasion way, he'd have to make sure she stuck around for at least 9 months. Then make sure she stuck around to take care of the kid when Jango was gone. Plus, what if she spawned a daughter?
Jango saw his chance and took it.
As far as loving a woman and honor and all that jazz, the man kills people for money. How honorable can he be? I don't think honor was an issue when it came to courting the ladies.
Wam bam thank you ma'am. Oh wait. You got a bounty on your head? Let's go for a bite to eat shall we?

Is it necessary for someone to ''honor'' and ''love'' a woman in order to bang her? Have you ever heard of sex-only relationships? What about real life scumbags etc. They have their share of girlfriends, but I doubt they ''honour'' women.

He looks good and he isn't dumb, I am sure he had his share of girlfriends or one night stands.
